Good article. I think the comments are very indicative of how going independent really helped byu. all the debate over the summer really gave good exposure to byu and their program. almost every poster was educated as to why byu is a bcs caliber school.



In my opinion the big 12 expands only if its sees its brand dminishing in strength. if it needs strong teams to bolster is bcs cred, then byu is the best pick for them.



interesting point that i hadn't thought of was that if tcu played in the title game and won it would give the big12 incentive to add them a long with byu. it make sense to me.

I think it happens after 2012. I see BYU with 2 years of Indy ball, and the BIg 12 comes calling when they renew their next TV deal, and not before. Only way it comes sooner is if Auburn goes down and A&M heads to the SEC.

Wow that's a lot of positive comments about BYU. I've never seen a column + comments about BYU with absolutely no negativity...people are finally seeing it.

I had to laugh a bit at this comment, not to make fun of you, but this whole thing has nothing to do with sense or BYU wouldn't have been the only one of the big 3 MWC teams to have been left out of expansion of BCS conferences twice as they have more across-the-board conference championships, attendance and TV viewership than probably Utah and TCU combined (not certain that we double, but it sounded good). There has been nothing about this that makes real sense and I really doubt that the Big 12 would have ever felt the pressure to allow TCU into their conference just because of a national championship win. They have two in their history plus a very storied FB program, but in their case their following sank them when the Southwest Conference folded and Texas, A&M and Bayler left them in the dust. The Big 12 dropped the ball. They could have handcuffed the Pac 10 by extending invitations to both BYU and Utah. If they had done that, Utah and BYU would both have gone to the Big12, and left the Pac 10 searching for a 12th member.



Compared to BYU, Utah may be a liberal school, but they are going to find that they are almost as much a fish out of water in that conference as BYU would have been. In a very, very, very small way, I feel sorry for what they are about to endure. They really weren't wanted, they aren't going to be liked, they will have no one standing with them, as BYU had in the past, and they will not see any of the money that they left for until at least 2-3 years down the line, while their "partner" Colorado, who sucks at everything gets full-member status.

i understand your point but money and bcs access is not what matters to the big 12 in the short term. they are set there. adding teams doesn't help them in those regards. but if their credibility of being a strong conference is hurt that hurts them. that is the only reason to add. tcu as a national champ fixes that problem. from that perspective it makes sense to add them in that scenario. And if they add tcu who else helps them there. well taking out arkansas and notre dame it as unlikely options its byu.

Reading those comments, I'm pretty much convinced that 90% of the "pro-BYU" comments were written by BYU fans. They know WAY to much about the BYU programs and facilities to be anything else.

I'm sure everyone can guess how I feel about BYU and Louisville being in the same conference. Even if they divide it up and they are in different divisions I'm sure I'd get to see my Cougs beat up on lousyville regularly!!! I'm all for it! Let's do it now Big 12!!!

Most Big XII fans I know are only slightly aware that football exists outside the state of Texas and Oklahoma. Much like SEC fans, but more reasonable.



I personally am not all that interested in BCS AQ conferences. A BCS Championship is outside the realm of possibility for BYU outside an AQ conference and is not any more likely inside the Big XII where you'd have to go through the likes of K-State (okay, a stretch), Oklahoma, Ok St, Texas, A&M, etc every year.



I'm interested in watching BYU play on national TV every week and win lots of games. I will get that with an independent schedule and ESPN as a TV partner with BYUtv.
