Stoked for next year. Who will replace the seniors?

Specifically, who will replace Rich, Logan, Bradley? Will Matt Reynolds stay? Is Apos finger healing? Can't wait to see Kaveinga added as a linebacker. What RMs will be added to the roster? How will BYU use Drew Phillips? Is there really any room for Riley Nelson at QB now, or should he be converted to another position (like safety)? :)

I would have to guess that Eason is a good probability to replace one of the corners because he has played quite a bit this year and then DeQuan Everett, Robbie Buckner, and Lee Aguirre to battle for a starting corner spot as well. I read somewhere that Joe Sampson (Brian Logan's cousin and a JC transfer coming in next year) is a good candidate to replace Rich at the safety position. We lose Hunter at MLB but gain Kaveinga and we lose So'oto at D end but I can also see our three D-lineman next year as Manumaleuna, Fuga, and Putnam. Did Ian Dulan go on a mission? He played a lot from '06 to '08 and then I think he went on a mission so I think he could be back for his senior year next season.

I think Dulan is back and he ought to replace So'oto. If Fuga gets back, he can play NT and that lets Manumaleuna slide back outside as well. Bryson, Rowley, etc will get time. We will be deeper on the line. Putnam was great the 2nd half as well.



The LBs will be better. Kaveinga will replace Hunter. Between Kaveinga, Ogletree and Stout, the middle is set. The outside will be solid with all those guys back as well--and a year better. KVN, Pendleton, Frazier and Wagner. Our LB corps will be really good.

The key for next year is to get 2-3 real playmakers on offense. We need to have some home run guys to the mix and we lacked that this year. Add that to our offense, with our ability to ball control, and we could be special next year. Let's hope Apo and Phillips are as good as advertised. And I really wonder how good Adam Hine is going to be post mission. We will have depth on both sides of hte ball--which is somehting we lacked this year.

Does Russell Talevia(I have no idea how to spell his name) come back from his mission this year. If I remember correctly... We should have him back as well.

Don't write off Hadley at the FS or other corner position. Uale will have to earn his minutes, as will Jray with Johnson and Gaines breathing down their necks. We will have depth at corner, but someone will likely be crosstrained at FS.



Thomas Bryson/Dulan can take So'otos spot and Fuga and Manu can rotate at NT with Richardson, and I think Kesni Tausinga could play DT as a true frosh(the kid is an all america caliber wrestler and rugby player). (not sure if Rowley has mission plans)

Matt Marshall is back and will captain our special teams, which have been steady this year; Justin Sorenson will be back to boom kickoffs into the end zone and Riley Stephenson has been a great punter for this thus far in his career.



On offense, everyone returns but Ashworth and possibly Matt Reynolds (who I'm hoping returns for his familys legacy to BYU) plus Apo/Philips/Hine and enough competition at wr/te to find guys that will be ready game 1. (Jacobson should be on high alert)



of course, this is if everyone stays out of academic or honor code trouble.

With the depth at OLB, and the obvious need for someone with experience at the strong safety, I still think its a possibility that Pendleton moves back to SS. The position coach that he had problems with is no longer there, and he would be someone that could step in right away and be the coach on the field at that position.

Don't forget Jorgensen saw a lot of time at LB too. We are so stacked a LB I could see them moving Van Noy to DE for his pass rushing abilities (basically his speed). Especially if he get a little more meat on his body this summer. Wasn't Frazier playing ILB? He was in on the same side as VanNoy most of the game. Man was he impressive on pass protection. (Maybe we should move Frazier to SS-he has two INT's on the season and was a blanket on WR's against Utah.) Wagner is back too.

Aguirre redshirted this year (will be back if he stays eligible- honor code or academic) and Thomas has called it quits (concussions) for football. you don't like Uale, then you should be rootin for Preston Hadley (juco xfer) or Kori Gaines/Jordan Johnson (rs frosh)

i am pretty sure that he stayed and played his last year instead of going out. i don't think we get him back. could be wrong on that, but i thought that is what i remember.

That's right I forgot he called it quits. That is too bad. Uale seemed to me to just get there at the end of most plays. He never seemed to make the play. I understand what a FS does and is not the "main" playmaker, but he just seemed to be slow to get to where he should have been.

That's good to hear Aguirre is back. Didn't follow him much and now I see why :). I just can't wait to see this team next year. WOW is all I can say. As long as Bronco doesn't hand the reins over I expect a top 15 - 20 D next year.

That's how I remember it too, but I do think he has a RS year left :).

Yep, spot on. The only thing I would add defensively, is that Carter Mees and Collin Keoshian will be in the mix - most likely playing for the safety spots and possibly LB (I could see Keoshian making the switch to safety pretty flawlessly.)



And Apo and Phillips are as good as advertised. I'm very very excited to see Phillips returning kicks at the D-1 level, and potentially be used in the slot. I think they need to move either DiLuigi or Phillips to the slot, as we have Quezada and Kariya back. Quezada needs to be the feature back, and if Kariya doesn't move to the FB role, he should be the 3rd down type back. I really think that Kariya has NFL potential as a FB, and that it would be a good move for him. He would be fast for a fb, and is one hell of a pass blocker. I wonder what his run blocking is: I imagine he would light people up if his pass blocking is any indicator.



Apo will be good on the outside, and he and Heaps already come into camp with a working idea of each other. I think he will be the playmaker we have needed since AC left. If our TE's stay, then one or two of them should emerge as featured tight ends (rather than the carousel their ridiculous position coach has sent them through this year - he deserves to get fired for JUST that, not including qb2 and all the other issues this year). Jacobsen returns, but he is an anomaly. He isn't really doing the inside receiver well, but I don't know that he can honestly beat out Apo and Hoffman. I know for sure he can't beat Apo out, but I wonder about Hoffman, with one season and 2 training camps under his belt - he is going to be scary good.



Our offensive line should be the weak point, if the TE stuff gets worked out, and it is actually a strength this year with: Reynolds returning(?), Braden Brown, Terrence Brown, and Braden Hansen all returning as starters. As far as subs we have Walter Kahaiali'i who saw decent time, and Houston Reynolds, Jordan Black, and Manu Malitalo who are all talented kids fighting for position. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Matt comes back, his brother Houston takes over the center position, and Brown moves to quard, his previous position to fill in for the graduating Speredon.



So it would look like this : Matt reynolds, Braden Brown, Houston reynolds, Terrence Brown, and Braden Hansen on the end (with Jordan Black seeing significant playing time at RT, Unless he fully beats out Hansen for the job.)



That is a pretty dang good looking question mark...



Offensively we will be much better than this year, and defensively we should be about the same, but we have the option to be much better depending on how guys step up and play: Sampson, Everett, Eason etc.



So yeah... with an off-season of good coaching, and no more of these stupid personnel mistakes, (No snaps for Nelson PLEASE, we can't afford to lose Lark and/or Munns)we will be scary good next year. With a "seemingly" hard schedule we have a decent chance to run the table and make some noise on a national level in our first year of independence.

I think Uale--like many others on the D--got better when Bronco took over. And he improved with each game. Just a junior, he has more time to get even better for next year. but I like the competition on defense for PT. Depth helps on D.

I agree, Uale has gotten much better as the season has gone on.
