Rumor Doman called the plays against Utah

So there were rumors once BYU started winning it was because Doman had more of a hand in game planning and play calling. But now that we lost to Utah any shred of that has completely disappeared and all blame has fallen securely on Anae.

But what if it was actually Doman's play calling the whole game that put us where we were? Do we still want to remove Anae and promote Doman? Or does he get a pass simply because he is not Anae?

I think he gets a pass because he is not anae :)

Except Doman did not call the plays, right???

Doman has been involved in the game plan for weeks, and Bronco put Robert on a shorter leash in that he required him to stick with the game plan that the offensive coaches put together. And by offensive coaches I refer to Anae, Doman and Reynolds. I have been told all have input. But Robert calls teh plays.

Personally, I was fine with the play calling with the exception of the final 3 dive plays up the middle. The rest was fine with me and I think were good calls. But those 3 were basically white flag plays, especially with how Utah had shut us down up the middle the whole second half, and with how well we had been throwing it that last dive. Jake was on the money that drive, yet we decided to take it out of his hands at that point. I thought it was 2-3 plays too soon.

I hope we add more run plays and looks from the I next year. A toss sweep would be nice, as well as some runs hitting other gaps. When kariya is in, it is between the guards only, and as much as I like Kariya, that play was too predictable in that situation.

I am not respecter of individuals--I blame the playcaller, no matter who he was.

Whoever it was... They called a crappy final drive.

IF and when Doman calls the plays... He's gonna go through a learning curve. Anae went through his.

I doubt it. I suspect when he takes over we don't lose from that point on.

If Doman called the plays, then I don't want Doman becoming the O Coordinator or calling any plays from this time forward. Everyone in the room was screaming at the playcalling multiple times during the game.

Somehow I don't see Doman taking the game OUT of the qb's hands with the game on the line...

Playing to lose I don't think is in his vocabulary.

The question isn't whether you think he was or not. It's do you want him as your OC if he was in fact calling the plays? It's not very likely that they would give him play calling ability in other games this year (as rumors have already abounded) and then take it away after getting in the groove. So if it was him, would you want him being your guy going forward or not?

Personally I don't believe he called the plays in this game or any game this year.

I agree. Everyone calling for Anae's job has been trying to pin the success of the offense on Doman while the offense was doing well and then going back to hating on Anae once the offense struggled again in this game. You can't have it both ways. Some "fans" really make me wonder sometimes.

I'm not really sure who - if anyone - was doing that. Citation?

And I don't think he has called any of the calls this year either. We just played easy teams, so we looked good. The goofy calls were still there in the thick of it all. I do think - however - he might be calling the plays for our bowl game, if he is being prepped as the OC as so many believe. With 3 weeks to prep, they might give him the shot.

So you are denying that these statements were ever made on this board? Well, I don't have time to research them out, but they were made. I don't think Hawkwing would have made this thread referring to the statements if they had never been made.

Hawkwing stiring the pot. If I were Anae I would be getting a membership to all the message boards and claiming Doman called the plays. ;)

Alas, Doman was not calling the plays for the Utah game and you can take that to the bank.

What if Pres. Bush was still in office the last 2 years? Or what if Pres Obama had been in office for 6 years now? Nice conversation, but is only misdirection. Fact is, none of those things happened, so let's deal with the facts. Anae called the game, the play calling was ok for hte most part, but stunk when it mattered most--the final drive. Anae circled the wagons when he had Utah on its heels and let them regroup and get some momentum before the big kick by going vanilla up the middle 3 straight plays--which by the way, we unsuccessful the first 2 plays of the drive and the whole 2nd half.

Maybe there were a couple individuals that said about Doman, but for the most part what I remember is that most thought based on the improvement of the offense. That they were in favor of Doman getting a chance to call the plays. I think this whole idea that Doman was calling plays started on CB. There was one guy who went on CB after one of the games a few weeks ago and said a friend of his had dinner with one of the offensive lineman.

That the lineman told him that Doman called the plays, but this guy said he needed to verify that statement. Later he came back and said basically what Lawboy has been saying, that Doman was heavily involved in game planning.

Doman has not called the plays,it has been all Anae. Yes its true that he and Reynolds have always had input, though from my vantage point it looks like the kind of input that goes in one ear and out the other. Speaking of Reynolds I have to wonder if he has about reached his boiling point. For now we will just leave it at that.

So let me get this straight. First of all - I fully agree with Hawkwing on this one and I also agree that there have been some that want to assume Doman called the plays everytime something goes well and assume Anae overruled Doman and called the plays himself every time a play did not work.
L
Lawboy
Who thinks Doman called any plays? Who? Name 1 person. All anyone has said is that Doman was invovled more in the game planning--and he was. Seriously, this muddying the waters is BS. Why the need to try to spin the situation Wing and Bib? Explain that.
