Boise's Pay for Play Program.

I don't know how Boise gets these kids to play for them. I lived in Idaho for 20 years of my life. I've been on BSU's campus several times and it just has nothing to offer players like Titus young, Austin pettis, Winston venable, and this disgusting freak of nature known as doug martin. Doug Martin not only gets paid but is juiced out of his mind. I just don't believe it's all legit.



They have NFL draft picks sitting the bench at BSU. This us all somewhat TIC but still....ridiculous.

I have not followed BSU recruiting closely, but last time I checked, they followed the old BYU model. Recruit no star guys looked over by other programs who are hungry and have success through system and execution.



BSU doesn't have to worry as much about player morals as BYU.



Have they actually been landing any 4 or 5 star recruits - or just have an eye for hidden talent.

Good question, I don't follow their recruiting either. Maybe that's the key to running a dirty program, nobody scrutinizes BSU's day to day activities. Wolf Pack is coming on strong now!!!!!

It's all about coaching and scheme. Very few of these guys were highly touted recruits. Here's a quick rundown of their team rankings from scout:

2011 (incomplete): #58

2010 (small class): #97

2009 (normal class): #60

2008 (normal): #64

2007 (1st class after BCS win over Oklahoma): #57

During the time period I mentioned above (4 complete and 1 partial recruiting years), they've had zero 5-star players and three 4-star players.

I agree with ABYUFAN. I grew up in the Boise Valley played football against BJC while I was at Ricks and they have always recruited well at every level JC - Div II and - DI . One draw is Boise itself, a great place to live.

I agree that BSU is following BYU's old recruiting with less strict standards and you can get some AWESOME talent. Just like College of Southern Idaho used to kill it on the basketball court back in the 90s with the same method. They would get kids out of the South that could jump out of the gym, guys that were legitimate d1 talent that couldn't quite make grades or that had been skimmed over and they were amazing. Most exciting basketball games I've ever seen.



Look at BYU lately, some of the best talent has been the players that have transfered (hall), walked on (criddle, Rich, Pitta). Guys that have a chip on their shoulder and want to prove they belong. If I'm coaching I'd much rather have someone who knows they have to earn it, rather than some of the "entitlement" issues that we saw this year. BSU is improving in recruiting. It will be interesting to see how much that changes things on the field. I have to admit, they are a fun team to watch, I just have a hard time dealing with their fans.
