A Story of true class during rivalry week

There's an exception to every rule. Weddle is that exception.

I always thought Weddle was a class act. A lot of people on the forums thought him to be arrogant and a jerk, but no he was just arrogant...but justifiably so. I would kill to have a fiery guy like that play for the Y. He wanted to win every play of every game and hit like a locomotive.

It's pretty simple. Weddle wasn't from Utah. He wasn't a part of the rivalry before attending Utah and he left town basically after he graduated and isn't really a part of the rivalry now.



He's a classy guy who hasn't been infected by Whittingham and baselessness that is Utah sports.



Whittingham on the radio this week said the rivalry really started growing about 15 years ago and has only gotten more intense since then. Gee, I wonder if it's because Whittingham has fostered that animosity. Anyone want to guess how long he's been at Utah? That's right, he came to Utah in 1994. He realized that Utah wasn't going to compete perennially with BYU until they got more emotionally involved in the game. Being a Cougar at the time, he knew BYU didn't treat the game with any degree of importance. Why would they? BYU was 19-3 in the previous 22 games before Whittingham. He ratcheted up the emotion.



Enter Urban stage left who brought it to a whole new level. Whittingham takes over and simply allows the disrespect towards BYU to continue.



The problem with the rivalry is on the Utah side. They can't let things go. They are still upset about the Lenny Gomes quote. They still hate Collie. BYU fans move on. Utes hold onto their animosity.

Agreed. But it goes deeper than that to Whit's Dad who was basically chased out of Provo, iirc.
