Patterson is a Hippie

While I agree in premise, it's way too easy for an outsider looking in to think that it will be a simple fix. It's not as extreme, but I asked North and South Korea to get along, as well as the Hutus and the Tutsis, and the Muslims, Christians, and Jews, not to mention the KKK and the Black Panthers, etc.



Seriously though, it's something that people here have grown up with, it's embedded in the culture of the Wasatch Front, it's not something that will just go away because some fat guy says it should. Especially when that guy has never been a part of the rivalry or any real rivalry for that matter (coached at K. State, UNM, and TCU). I can appreciate the sentiment but would invite him to kindly shut his trap.

Our rivalry will get along when Tibet is free!!!

Is this one of those situations where BYU and Utah unite to attack TCU? Kind of like the old saying about being able to say what you want about your family because it's your family, but no one else can say anything about your family.

In the book series "Series of Unfortunate Events" (illustrated by a BYU Alum) one of the baddies, Carmaleta Spatts calls the protagonists "cake sniffers" The ABYUFAN family likes that series and phrase so much that “cake sniffers” and "cake sniffing" pops up from time to time in our house. So I have to admit that I kinda borrowed it…

SMU. Their rivalry is called the Battle for the Iron Skillet, which was a decent rivalry back in the days of the SWC. They've played 89 times, which is more than BYU and Utah have played.

Patterson is like the middle child that's jealous of the older and younger siblings.



He wants his rivalry too and must hate that all the talk in the MWC is directed at the BYU/Utah game and not on how awesome his team is. A part of him has to envy BYU/Utah because they have a long-standing rivalry that will continue to exist to a degree even across different conferences. Who's he got? Guess he can start picking a fight with BSU, but we know how that turned out last time he did that.



Besides, isn't this from the same guy that puts BYU logos in urinals and posts disparaging comments in the locker room about BYU? As head coach, he sets the tone not just for the team, but for the fans too. If TCU fans know TCU players are peeing on BYU emblems than the fans will certainly embody the same attitude.

No this was Utah who did it. TCU puts a BYU jersey on their tackling dummy.

The Iron Skillet rivalry (even though they are both religious schools) never reached levels comparable to the Holy War. And that rivalry was pretty well dead before Patterson came on scene at TCU



(you ought to look through that wikipedia article ... if only to read the selection of highlighted quotes ... they are great and are good reminders of what the rivalry is really like)
