PER and other Miscellany

BYU PER: 137.65. UNM PER: 74.52. That brings the PER record to 10-1 (.909) this year. For those interested, in the Top 25 this weekend, the PER's reocrd was 16-1 (.941), the only loss being Iowa (128.00) vs Ohio St (102.06).



BYU's 236 yards rushing were the most against UNM since 2006. The 40 points were the most since 2006. the 35:20 TOP was the best under Bronco. The 29 first downs were the most since 2006.



BYU did a great job on first down. They ran 37 plays on first down. Only 12 of those turned into 2nd & 7 or more. Only six of those turned into 3rd & 7 or more.



Since the bye week, BYU has had 15 plays of more than 20 yards. They had 18 in the previous 8 games combined. Since the by week, we're converting on 67.4% of 3rd down. Before the bye it was 38.1%. Before the bye week, Heaps' rating was an atrocious 87.56. Since the bye week it's been a very good 172.08, which would be the 4th best at BYU (behind McMahon '80, Detmer '89 and Sarkisian '96)if he had that for an entire season.



BYU has rushed for 200 or more yards six times this year, the most since 2001. There's a good chance we could get to seven.

I expect Jake to look good again against utah for the simple reason that I expect us to continue running effectively.

I get it, it is the best TOP bronco had produced against unm, not the best TOP bronco has produced ever.

Max never had a good game against Utah, so I am not expecting a good game from Heaps. Hopefully that will change since Utah has to be worried about stopping our run game (which they never worry about).

I think that Max had a mental block when it came to utah. There was no excuse for the passes he was throwing in last years game. I am not going to believe that Heaps will look that way yet. Maybe utah will get under Heaps' skin like they did Max and maybe they won't. We will just have to wait and see.
