Difference in Cougars and frUtes schedule

As of our next game on Nov. 27th



Number of ranked opponents played:

BYU - 4(Florida St., Nevada, TCU, and Utah)

frUtes - 1(TCU)



Of course our MWC opponents share the same total of win/losses, but the number of win/losses in OOC play:

BYU - 26-17

frUtes - 18-26



Also keep in mind, the frUtes played cupcake OOC schools(Pitt.6-4, Iowa St.5-7, SJSU 1-10, and Notre Dame 6-5)



I've been trying to think of who the frUtes resemble the most, out of our previous opponents. I believe yesterdays frUtes-Aztecs game solidified that for me. Both teams threw bombs all game long, while they had bombs thrown over them all game long. Turnovers is why SDSU lost.

Utah used their bruiser in Asiata for short gains, and there were a couple of times where Utah needed 3 to 4 attempts to score from the goal line. SDSU didn't have that.



BYU has been good as of late, but that is also against cupcake schools. How are we now against a tougher opponent today?



Utah has been wishy/washy as of late, and that's because of tougher opponents. Will they continue their struggles with a BYU team who still is growing, learning, struggling, maturing???



Utah blitzed a lot against SDSU -- will they continue that with us OR ease up and play the deep ball WHERE we haven't been stellar at this year?

Well... as bad as their schedule is...we're rolling in @ 6-5 and therefore not helping it out much... I think their best win beats ours and our worst loss is worse. I still think we win. But schedule smak fails with a USU loss on the books.

Schedule smack does nothing more than support what everyone already knows. Utah is not and was not a top 5 team. They did just beat a good team on the road that we barely beat at home.



But we are better today than we were Vs SDSU so we currently are playing better than 6-5 ball.



Bottom line is we were horrible early in the season and even looked more horrible because the teams trouncing us were very good teams. At that point, Utah was playing mostly decent OOC teams that were not great teams, and beating them. At that point in time, we would have lost to those teams for the most part.



It is different now. Utah, at best, is a Top 25 team and we are now playing like a top 35 team. The game is in SLC. BYU is the underdog.



That is fine. Upsets are sweet.



If the tide rises and Heaps lifts all boats, BYU wins. If Heaps lacks precision or throws into coverage, Utah wins.



Utah will make Heaps beat them with his arm.

So ... has Heaps seen the kind of game this is before? Has he actually attended one, and seen how ugly it can be? I'm wondering if there's any chance he gets a little overwhelmed up in RES (deer in headlights). The good thing is, he'll have all day to throw, since I haven't watched a game yet where we were able to put pressure on a QB.

Not sure BYU is going to want to throw too much. We have been trying to keep Heaps around 30 throws a game since we have played better, and tried to run more, possess the ball more, and the formula has worked. So I expect more of the same Saturday. Expect BYU to try to establish a run, then play action Utah to death. Worked vs. SDSU, CSU, Wyoming, UNLV, UNM and TCU to an extent. And we will not only run between the tackles a lot, we will run between the guards a lot. The center of the Utah D will be tested.



One other thing. Remember the D Utah faced in 2008 at RES where BYU sat back and basically gave up 5-7 yard passes on about every play, and sat in base formations? That D is gone. Bronco will bring pressure, it will come from everywhere, he will mix up looks and since we have played that way we have been drastically better on D and as a team. We are a pressure defense now and it is much more fun to watch.

Yes, after playing in fsu's stadium I am sure your 20 fans will really overwhelm him. If anything I would be more worried about him being distracted by the strippers in the stands. He is still a teenager. ;)



I just hope anae is smart enough to RUN THE BALL! Nobody has been able to stop our run and I doubt Utah will either. If that is true and they aren't getting pressure then our offense should put up some points. the key is turnovers and special teams in my mind.



i worry more about shaky than anything. wynn will be bullied and it will be a lot like the tcu game for him. but our kick off team the last few games has allowed some ridiculous returns. shaky is one of the best there is. i hope bronco spends some time with special teams this week.
