Did Rich get into the endzone with his int?

Did he get in? And why was the ball put where it was. Was it taken to the spot of the foul and then moved back 15 yards. I'm confused about what took place on that play. :skeptic:

I was watching the game from the east stands, and it certainly appeared that Rich got into the end zone with the INT. The ref called him down at the one or two yard line. When I saw the instant replay on the video board it only seemed to solidify that he made it into the endzone before his knee hit. However, that was nullified, because the refs called an unnecessary roughness penalty on KVN, and moved tha ball back to about the BYU 40-45 yard line. I didn't see the penalty considering my eyes were planted on Rich, but I don't think much was done on the part of KVN to warrant it.



I saw a lot of strangeness from those refs last night, one was a PI on BYU when it looked like the ball hit the BYU player near the end zone as he was guarding the defender, I don't even think he touched him. The play ended, and the about 5 seconds after the ball falls incomplete, the ref throws his flag.



Another bogus, no call was in the second quarter when BYU was driving. I believe it was on third down, Heaps was hit as he threw the ball, and the receiver came up with it with a defender draped all over him, dragging him out of bounds. No flag was thrown for PI.

They called the penalty because KVN destroyed some guy who wasnt even near the play.... Bad ass hit just not necessary

On tv it confirmed your observations and weird reffing. I think rich was definitely in. The penalty was ridiculous. It was hard to see due to lack of mtn replays, but as best I could tell, after the int kvn blindsided a guy on a block. He hit him front on, but appeared to level him. I guess since he was behind the play they considered it unnecessary, but what if rich had to cut across field and that defender came back and made the tackle? I think he has every right to lay a guy out with a legal block like that. I'd be surprised if the coaches are upset at him for that one.



I also thought it was curious that the penalty would be from the spot of the foul. Holding or something affecting the play I can see, but a personal foul away from The play should be assessed at the end of the play. Essentially that was a 60 yd penalty.



In case you havent heard, The MTN sucks! Glad I have DVR, because they just simply refuse to show replays on that network. Or how about a little explanation about what is taking place in the game. The announcers make no effort to clear up confusing calls or explain what is missed when the cameraman misses the play.

not to mention how many of our 140 penalty yards (not including the aforementioned 60 yarder :sulk:) were against our defense when UNM had run into another 3rd and long. I think I can remember multiple UNM drives that were dead in the water that were propped up by penalties. It didn't just happen once, but something like 3-4 times which seemed excessive to me.



AND on the drive they scored, there was a pass to a UNM receiver. Ball arrives, Defender absolutely levels him and separates him from the ball. Incomplete pass. 5 seconds later a flag comes flying from the far judge. "unncessary roughness". huh? He didn't arrive early, that wouuld have been PI. But the dude had caught the ball and it was a 3rd down in the red zone. inconceivable.



and yes, I thought Rich was definitely in but I couldn't see his knee from where I was in the stands. We still beat them by 33 points so hard to complain about the game, but it sure seemed one-sided to me.

I wanted Rich to get in more than anyone but on the replay it was clear that his knee did hit before the ball crossed the goal line. As for the KVN penalty, I didn't see it (thanks MTN) but unless it was from behind or head to head there shouldn't be any foul for that, you're taught to knock the guy next to you down on a turn over.

His knee hit just before the ball crossed the goal line. One of the replays showed it clearly, it was the right call.

The thing that bugged me was how molasses-slow Bryson was on that play! Throw that block, son! Lay out full body if you have to!

You'd think a defender would know how to hit. Bryson throws that block and Rich gets in no problem. But, as usual, Rich has to do most of the hard work himself. :roll: :angry:

man I wanted rich to get in more than anything. what a last play for him that would have been.

KVM made several freshman mistakes but flashed brilliance at other times. This is the trade-off when you play true freshmen. The team can absorb 1 or 2 or 3 maybe True Freshman, but it needs to be balanced by experienced players.

That entire thing was screwed up by the officials. Van Noy's block on the lineman was a good block, a hard hit but a good block (according to Scott Johnson on the KSL post game). Rich dove into the end zone, was not down on the 1 yard line. The officials got it wrong all the way around. Too bad for Rich but we were not going to lose so it was a non issue.
