BYU-Utah rivalry getting more and more love.

Foxsports has given the BYU-Utah rivalry some serious love this year. Each year our rivalry has been getting some love, but this is the highest I've seen it.

BYU and Utah battle in The Holy War every year, and invariably the Las Vegas Bowl (No. 1 MWC team gets automatic berth) or Poinsettia Bowl (No. 2 MWC gets automatic berth) is on the line for one of these teams. BYU has played for five consecutive years in the Las Vegas Bowl, while Utah has played in the Poinsettia Bowl two of the last three years. The Holy War has lived up to the hype: Except for a 2008 beat down by Utah, there have been two overtime games and no margin of victory greater than seven points in the last five years. Grade: A

Maybe a Fox employ finally attended one of these games, and learned something all of us already knew.



Out of the top 12 rivalry games... We're ranked as the 2nd best. They even grade these matchups and we got an A. Yeah...

I think that Max Hall's rant last year got the rivalry a lot of attention. People suddenly realized just how heated and crazy it is.

Mark Schlabach/ESPN ranked BYU-Utah 9th in the top ten best rivalries of the 2000s.



"Known as the "Holy War" by fans, the BYU-Utah rivalry has generated dramatic finishes and plenty of animosity. The decade opened in 2000 with the Cougars defeating the Utes 34-27 in BYU coach LaVell Edwards' final game. In 2001, BYU scored a last-minute touchdown to beat Utah 24-21. In 2003, Utah beat BYU 3-0, ending the Cougars' NCAA record of not being shut out at 361 consecutive games. Utah finished 12-0 in 2004, becoming the first team from a non-BCS conference to play in a BCS bowl game, after blasting the Cougars 52-21. The next season, backup quarterback Brett Ratliff led the Utes to a 41-34 victory in overtime. BYU turned the tables in 2006, with John Beck throwing a touchdown to Jonny Harline on the final play of a 33-31 win."

I had a thought this morning. Wouldn't it be awesome if the football game was moved to November and BYU and Utah played each other in football and basketball on the same day? Football in the afternoon, basketball at night.



Probably never happen but I think that would be pretty cool.

Yeah... I don't know about that. You know how horrid frUte fans are on football day. They would be even worse after we beat them on the field AND on the court.
