Hawaii to MWC for only football!

Ladies and gentlement, your new MWC: The WAC.

Their rules say that all sports have to be in the conference. That is why all of our sports had to leave when we declared independence.

This is a good move for UH. When the WAC announced it's recent expansion, UH indicated it was not satisfied with the future of the WAC and that they were keeping options open. Apparently they have chosen this over Independence, which was also considered.



MWC should have tried harder to keep BYU, but the lousy TV deal was pretty much cast in stone for many more years.



Hair takes a lot of criticism over here, but he has done very well with the cards he has been dealt.



The dominoes keep falling. TCU?



The MWC should throw USU a bone to keep a foot in what is left of the Utah market.



They should go for a Dozen and split into two divisions and free up some slots to schedule BYU.



Then BYU could feast on WAC and MWC teams with some 2 fer 1 action to offset the pain of playing a few good to great teams OOC at neutral sites or if the current trend of playing everyone on the road continues.

Why does Jay Drew say: When BYU was considering fb independence, MWC said it wouldn't let other sports stay in the league. Different rules for UH, apparently.

I think BYU could have and still could get the MWC to take BYU as a football only member- BYU didn't want or ask for that - football rules the day - the MWC, didn't want to take non-football only, thus paving the way to lose BYU football. In the end, they lost it anyway - and now they are trying to patch things back together.

No, BYU ABSOLUTELY DID ask to stay in the mwc for other sports and be allowed to go indy in football.

You misread what he said. He said that BYU didn't ask to stay in the MWC as football only.

Their bylaws say that all sports have to be in the conference. The softball team is looking for a conference. I think they would like to stay in the conference especially if Hawaii was there.

This is different. They probably would have and would still take BYU as Football Only. BYU did not want that and does not want that.



BYU wanted the opposite which was easier to say no to.



And MWC won't be letting UH have their own TV deal. BYU demanded that and MWC could not give that because the MWC TV rights are locked up for years.

If the MWC conference gets Utah St. as a member, do they think Utahns will watch them on the mtn. just because we live in the same state? When Utah St. takes on La. Tech who will be interested? Where's the market?



It's the same for the Pac-10 taking Utah. They now claim to have the Utah "market." Tell me, who in the entire state are Ute fans besides the select few in Salt Lake City?. Anybody in Utah county? I think they'll be surprised to find out the lack of interest the state of Utah has for Utah football. When a "good" Ute team has trouble filling a 45,000 stadium and a sub-par BYU teams gets 62,000 regularly, that's telling.

I wonder what the comparative ratings were last week when BYU/CSU and Utah/ND were head to head...
