reason for hanging em up? Concussion at FSU. I'm actually glad that players and coaches are taking concussions seriously. It's about time.



Does this mean we have a scholarship open up?

The article says that BYU will honor his scholarship until he graduates...So I interpret that as no there will not be an extra scholarship open up.



Unless there is some loophole for career ending injuries.

Hopefully there is a way to give a non-football schollie, but I have no idea what the rules are.

From what I understand, he stays on scholarship (on the condition that he can never practice or play again), AND BYU gets his football scholarship back. But I'm not the final expert on this one.

That seems correct to me. I believe this is a BYU-thing, they probably transfer that scholarship to another pool of scholarships. There are probably different criteria for him to meet to keep it than football now. I don't know if other schools do this, I imagine they do.

I believe the guys name is Steven Thomas. There is no player on BYU's team named Stephens.

I was confused as well. I was thinking to myself "I don't remember Riley Stephenson getting a concussion during the FSU game. That's gotta be the first time ever that a punter has gotten a concussion in a game."

Steven Thomas is now serving as a student assistant coaching the safeties. While it is difficult for the Jr. not to play - he is still involved with the defense - which is a good thing.

better to be cautious in the realm of concussions. Its sad to see a guy like that go down but it isn't worth it, he didn't have an NFL career to look forward to anyway.

What added insult to his injury were remarks made about him by a few posters before and right after his injury. I felt bad readingcthose remarks ten and even worse thinking about them now.



I wish him well even though some of us are having a little trouble remembering his name.



I wish we would have been able to see him add depth and continue to improve.
