Like Oregon fans have any room to lecture another coach about ethics. Sheesh.

I still think this is exactly what Tulsa did to BYU in Tulsa. They had more injuries every other play, but only when they were on defense.

That was worse then a european soccer match.

I don't know if it's as bad as soccer in Europe. They practice faking over there.

That is honestly...disgusting. :gross: It is my opinion that any player that a game is stopped for due to injury should be forcibly held out the rest of the game. If the officials stop for him SOME type of consequence needs to be assessed to keep players from faking. Maybe not the whole game, but something like that.

I mean it is absolutely out of control in soccer. You want to fall down? That's fine. Just like taking a charge in basketball, be my guest. But if you grab your leg like your hurt and you writhe around on the ground in pain you should be on the sideline for the rest of the game. That would stop all those pansy soccer players from playing like six year old girls and wasting everyone's time. You don't get hurt badly enough to lie on the ground writhing in pain, only to magically get over it once a yellow card is drawn and just shake it off.

I think you are blowing this out of proportion. Soccer players don't really do that.

I actually believe you can get yellow carded in soccer for faking injury. However, to fix the sport, they should go back and suspend anyone after a review of the game tape who they feel faked injury. Or else they could just enforce the yellow card rule for faking injury. Or if that isn't really a rule and I just made it up, they should implement it.

hahaha, oh man, I really can't believe there isn't a rule about that yet. Can you imagine that in the NBA? Stern wouldn't stand for it for a MINUTE. He's hand out fines like cupcakes. Same with the NFL. Can you imagine football players doing that? Soccer refereeing needs to be reigned in.

I hate seeing players fake injury or contact as much as anyone else, but as to basketball, the NBA has plenty of diving, simulation, or flopping as well and Stern doesn't seem to care.

At least you don't see players faking injuries in hockey. From a young age, hockey players are taught to get off the ice because the ref will only blow the whistle if he sees a pool of blood or thinks your paralyzed, so for minor injuries--broken bones, torn ligaments, etc.--you hurry get to the bench so your team isn't playing man down. It's all part of the hockey culture of putting the team in front of the individual.

It is a yellow card in soccer for flopping but not for faking an injury. You could give them a yellow card for faking an injury by calling it unsporting behavior. Also if a player's trainer or coach is called on the field they must leave the field until the ref allows them to come back on. If a teams keeps faking injuries i would wait longer and longer to allow them to come back on the field. Sorry for the rant. I just wanted to feel smart and show my authority as a soccer official. ;)

Soccer refs know what's going on--if they see the team in the lead feigning injury, they just tack on 7 minutes of stoppage time and don't blow the whistle until the trailing team has maxed out its chances to score. That all assumes the ref isn't biased, which is a topic for a whole other discussion!

Honestly, I'm okay with flopping. I don't like it when my team gets burned on it, but that is an....acceptable part of the game for me. But laying down and wincing and screaming in pain only to hop up two minutes later and keep going? That wastes everyone's time. If you lay down in pain and can't get up then don't. Go to the locker room and stay there. If you're hurt so bad you can't play, get off the field and come back next week.

Soccer is such a feminine sport for this reason alone. Hockey instituted dive penalties years ago and, guess what, people no longer dive and instead play the game like men. Til then soccer will remain a sport for skinny white boys who like to cry running around looking for reasons to get penalty kicks. Although I will say the U.S. team did not seem to participate in the theatrics like most of the other teams--I am proud of them for that.

Ironic that our major sport is instituting rules because players are getting too hurt, even to the point of paralysis. And the biggest sport in the world has a bunch of whinny babies rolling around on the ground. I watched the World Cup (go URUGUAY!), and couldn't even finish all the way through it. The Semi-finals was so bad with every other play someone grabbing their knee. What a ridiculous sport.

I don't get why people go out of their way to knock soccer? Is it because it's the most popular sport almost every other country in the world? Everyone has a sport the dislike, but soccer seems to be a lightning rod of criticism in the US. I know a lot of people dislike basketball (like me) or baseball (not me), but they just let it be--rather than actively criticizing, they just ignore the sport and let those who enjoy it go on with their sport. I'm not trying to rant or be inflammatory, I'm just more curious than anything.

You know what, I'll tell you what I think it is. And it's the same problem with baseball and why Basketball and Football are blowing it out of the water in popularity in our country.

Soccer doesn't score enough points is one problem. We like offense here in the states. We like to see people put points on the board. You want soccer to be more popular here, I've got some ideas for that: 1. Shrink the size of the field to speed up the game, 2. Increase the size of the goal to encourage higher scores, and 3. GET RID OF THE WUSSY-NESS CURRENTLY BEING MENTIONED. We want a sport that feels manly and THAT kind of crap doesn't feel manly. I LOVE soccer, but I think it needs to be changed to keep up with other sports.

Baseball as well. A couple of things that would increase my interest in baseball: 1. Cut the number of regular season games in half. Too many games means none of them really matter that much. Each game matters in the NFL and the NBA is so tight every year that there is still drama there. Cut the number of games in half and I think you draw many more people to each game. 2. Instill time into it somehow. As of right now, baseball is boring to me because there are no in-game time restraints. I love the factor of clock management in football and basketball. Maybe give innings time limits and instill a "playclock" type situation for the pitcher. Nothing gets my heart racing like watching a countdown. Seeing time run down in football and basketball really help me. I feel like I can sleep through a whole baseball game. Bored to tears. There are a lot of ways something like this could theoretically be implemented. I haven't considered them all, but time is a great factor in sports entertainment that I think baseball misses out on.

So yeah. Soccer is a great sport, I agree. But it could do a lot to increase interest in our country where we have such fantastic alternatives.

My wife from England, held a soccer party (football) for the world cup US vs England, we got a projector and everything, she decided it's just so much more boring than american football.

In soccer it's ball control and flopping...lame.

American Football (her words) anything and everything happens which is exciting.

I agree, soccer is a gentleman's game (non-contact) sport, nobody can convince me otherwise, rugby, hockey, and american football are real contact and far more exciting to me personally. I want US soccer to beat european countries when they play, but I can guarantee I won't be watching.
