Bronco's Change in Practice Approach = Improved Play?

In the weekly press conference, Bronco indicates that he made a decision "about five weeks ago" to have the #1 offense work on the passing game versus the #1 defense "every single day" in practice.



The results of this approach seem to indicate, "That, in a very short amount of time has led to better decisions, more accuracy and more success on the practice field. That success on the practice field has now generated some confidence at an increased level going into the game...we added back in most of the competitive elements of throwing and catching the football against our own defense."



From my perspective, the intense competition between the 1's O/D has brought out the best for their game-time preparation. It seems that even though they have not overly focused on oppoents schemes, they have managed to dictate tempo and play during the game. IMO may be this is best for both sides as playing against the besttalent day in day out forces you to play at a very high level - and make the necessary improvements/changes to excel.



Wonder if they will continue this approach for the future judging from the recent success we have seen?

Seems to reinforce the notion that the coaches had Jake go against the 1s primarily in camp because they felt it would help get him ready quicker and not in some effort to undermine the QB battle. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to have helped the receivers enough, but not going against the 1s enough.

I hope so. That being said, I think it will depend on injuries and depth. It seems like practices get lighter when the lack of depth at critical positions dictates that the risk of injuries is too high.

Additional comment by Bronco, and you have to appreciate his honesty, Jake's improvement has resulted from the last five five weeks of practice where every single day the 1st team offensive is throwing vs and 1st team defense.

Heaps echoes this sentiment, as he stated after the CSU game, that things might be different if he had been given the starting job back in August.



Heaps indicated that the score vs CSU wasn't a shock, "We could have been doing this since Week One, so it has taken us a little while to get there."



Wow, since Week One - begs to wonder what our record could have been with the scenario noted above having occurred.
