Record Without Anae, Hill, and 2-QB System?

Just for fun. A completely hypothetical and objective poll.

A more interesting question is what would it be if Bronco had not fired Hill and what would it be when the season ends in two weeks I.e. No Bowling IMHO if Hill was still here.



Without the 2 qb system, Nelson likely starts and maybe we still beat UW whom we barely beat. If Heaps started Day 1, we would have lost every game up to and possibly including Wyoming. If Heaps started Day1, I fear that the horrible blocking the 2nd thru 4th weeks would have gotten Heaps injured or shell shocked beyond recovery.



If Nelson started week 1 which is most likely, when he went down in Week 3 or sooner, Heaps would have been even less prepared to take over.



Before we all go theoretically back with selective memory and replay the season without our favorite scapegoats, let's play the next three games because they count and are coming ready or not.



Some want to give Bronco coach if the year for the turnaround, and yet others still think he hasn't done enough or won't do enough without boosters shoving it down his throat.



I still trust that Bronco is the best HC for BYU and doesn't need expert fans to tell him how many QBs to play when he doesn't have a clear #1 ready.



We still need a back-up qb this year and for the future. I hope blowouts continue and they Let Lark dink and dunk it a bit.

I don't think we would've beaten SDSU or Wyoming (both games where the defense kept us in the game and the offense played so-so). So probably 3-7. I really believe that. Hill leaving worked wonders for the team.

I agree with most of this. Whether or not the 2 QB system actually hurt us is impossible to tell. Had we started Heaps, his confidence could have been shot in some of those games where he was taken out to protect him. Had we gone just with Riley, then he would have been even more unprepared now subsequent to Riley's injuries.



Same thing with Anae. Who nows how a different OC would have done in the same circumstances? OCs can be really good or really bad. So unless there is a name to supplant Anae, it is hard to say what impact, if any, that would have. I do agree that some different play calling by Anae may have resulted in a more positive outcome.



I am certain that had Hill been removed after last year, our defense would have been much better. We would probably have won both the Air Force and USU games. We would have had a puncher's chance against Nevada. I think we still would have lost to FSU and probably TCU.



So, in my estimation, the only sure thing that may have improved the outcome so far is Hill's removal sooner. That would have given us a two to three game swing which would still not give us a MWC title or BCS bowl. So, in the end, it doesn't really matter all that much. Since Bronco turned it around, we will have just about the same results as everyone reasonably expected -- a bowl game and a winning season.

The real problem appears to have been the defense giving up big leads early, something that our offense hasn't been good at recouping even with Hall or Beck. So, the real question should probably just be "what's our record if Hill is fired during the offseason?"

I think the only difference is the Utah State game. BYU would still have lost to Air Force, FSU, Nevada, and TCU, though the scores wouldn't have been as lopsided. Heaps moved the ball well enough against Washington to make me think that additional practices reps would have helped BYU win that game.



That leaves the Utah State game, which to me was a complete aberration.

I completely agree, USU was the aberration, truly the only game that was not representative of this year's team.
