3 weeks ago, everyone was convinced Ute asst. were better

3 weeks ago there was almost no one on the site that wouldn't trade any assistant coach on the Ute staff for any asst. coach at BYU. Now things have made a dramatic turn, and Whitt was even throwing his coaches and QB under the buss after the game on Saturday. Who are you willing to trade now for any of them?



What do you think now after the last 2 weeks?

I want the best possible coaches. I think our current coaches made major mistakes at preparing time which cost us some games, and one got fired (evidence that coaching changes were necessary).



People are quiet right now, but fans should complain for inexcusable losses. Play calling has gotten better against awful competition and so I'm happy, but when Anae opens with wildcat formation against utah using Falslev two times in a row, and then throws 9 straight times, my complaints along with others will surface. Utah has BYU educated coaches and are doing fine, but they have a much wider spectrum of recruiting room than BYU so it's more important for BYU to have great coaches than other schools.

I wouldn't trade any of our coaches for what they have at utah. I have never thought that kwhit was a better coach then Bronco.

Utah coaches, starting with KWhit, coach by means of extreme emotion, and when you live and die by that you'll have games like the last 2.

I'll take back Aaron Roderik and Kalani Sitake in a heartbeat. They're better recruiters, they're young and they're hungry and they both had a major hand in the Ewes Sugar Bowl winning team.



Kalani could come back and take the backseat to Bronco with the D but be groomed as the DC when the time comes (he's a killer recruiter) and I would still welcome Arod to run our offense. I don't think they'd come though because the money probably wouldnt' be right, nor would the amount of trust that they'd have here vs what they have there.



They'd both instantly become our best recruiters and taking them from the U would tremendously handicap them. Arod is their top recruiter and Kalani is doing great to their polynesian recruiting base.



I don't think the U has much talent on D this year and they lost most of their receivers last season; I also think Jordan Wynn is soft and can't handle being pressured and getting hit.



It's entirely possible to have great assistant coaches and still perform poorly; it certainly doesn't change my opinion of Arod and Kalani... what does change my opinion of them is that they're :utard: and that is completely unnacceptable.

I would take Kalani Sitake he is one of the best up and coming coach's. He's a former player who knows and understands what it takes to play at BYU. I like BM as the D cordinator but if he was to go out looking for a replacement I hope its Kalani. Every team has a bad game or two, dont let Utards last two games be the only games you judge there coaching staff on.

All I know is that the last 2 games that Utah had, as bad as they were, still are not as bad as our first 5 games. 1-4. Loss to Utah State in embarrassing fashion. So Utah may have hit a rough patch, but so has every team in the country this year except for 4. Utah simply was not as good as that #5 ranking. But they are still the same team.



There will be changes with the BYU staff this year. Count on it. I hear grumblings from sources I trust. The BYU staff with have turnover after this year.

I think this is the second time this week you've tossed out having a source. I sure hope it's not rumorboard. That would just be sad :~(

Last year Bronco said as many as 3 would be gone - implying opportunities they could not pass up. None of that happened, then 1 retired due to illness, then he fired Hill abruptly, now these rumors - which do not sound like coaches leaving for big opportunities.



So if the coaches really are that bad after Bronco thought they were that good - I hope Bronco knows how to tell if a coach is good.



For me, it seems asinine to insinuate that a coach is gone at year end no matter what happens in the next 5 games (counting from the first time I saw you post this), but then say but go ahead and try hard and win the next FIVE for the Gipper.



I don't doubt that their are some whining alums that might want to tell Holmoe and Bronco how to run the program. I also know that Bronco is principled enough that if he gets forced into doing something he finds unfair, he will probably do what Lavell did and place someone on their feet elsewhere, and then tell BYU to find someone else to run the program.



I suspect Bronco will see how things go, assess what people did and did not learn, and make fair decisions and go forward even though several on this board have criticized him for being slow and indecisive.



I wager that his decisions will be prayerful.

Am I the only one who's concerned about us not having one African American assistant coach on staff? If we don't replace Hill with another competent coach who happens to be AA we would end up as the only major college program in the country without an AA on staff! I can't believe I've heard nothing about this looming PR catastrophe - advocating other coaches without that being considered will just perpetuate the usual myths from the ignorant haters that we're still nothing more than a lily white school, church and state.

Bronco should continue as the DC, but surely there is a good former BYU player of Color with coaching talent who will sign up for the Standards in the Honor Code.



But, let's face it. There are not many black LDS Church members. We need more black LDS Church members and it is not that the Church is not trying. So, you raise a good point and a challenging one to address due to the numbers.



If there is one able and willing - I agree - bring em.



Keep in mind, teams are allowed a fixed number of coaches and Bronco already added a position coach after he fired Hill. So someone has to go to make room for such a hire - a reflection of why coaches are rarely fired midseason.

Make Brian Logan a grad asst asap... and groom him to be the dbs coach

Yeah, it is starting to resemble a democrat run administration (race wise)!



As for "race", who cares? Get the most competent coaches, oh and btw Anae and Kaufusi qualify as minority as far as "race" is concerned.



Maybe we can convince one of the two "AA's" on TCU's coaching staff to come to BYU and coach. Then we can get TCU's secret to such a successful D implanted here. At least I was thinking this until Bronco took back the D. Now not so concerned about it. But if he brought one of the guys from TCU's D here to groom as the future DC that would be okay with me-maybe. As long as he didn't turn out like the last DC. I hope him the best but I don't think our last DC was up to the challenge that the whole group presented.

i would trade roderick for anae. i would pick up sitake in a hearbeat for the defense.
