Time to start flooding Matt Reynolds w appreciation + love

We need this guy back next year.. the NFL lockout threatens to keep him from playing at all next season (no play, no pay) and he and his family's legacy can only skyrocket if he returns and plays his senior year. (he's our peyton manning, the can't miss guy that came back).

Our Oline looked too good yesterday not to keep this going... and it will be seemless if Matt comes back and dominates next season with these guys. I have to believe he'd be the favorite for the Outland trophy and he undoubtedly could eras the 1st half of this season from the minds of NFL scouts (he wasn't particularly good early) but they've been insanely good since the bye.

unless there's a lockout (which I doubt), he'd be foolish to come back. I'd love him to, but it would be the wrong choice for him.

If there's a lockout, it likely wont' occur before the NFL draft. It'll happen during the summer when negotiations break down. Living in an NFL city and hearing about it every day, I think there's as good as a 75% chance that there's a lockout.



I think there's a good chance he comes back.



If he were a lock for a 1st round pick then I'd agree, go and get paid... His stock also slid tremendously. He started the season as a 1st round lock and you can't find him on most experts 2nd round picks now (some not even in the 3rd round). He would probably be the favorite to win the Outland trophy next year and our Oline would be as good and experienced as any in BYU history.



BYU takes a big step into independence next season and I know his father and BYU loyalists want this to succeed more than anything. On the plus side, we'll be all over ESPN and Matt will get more exposure in one season than he has for the rest of his entire career.



His family has built their homes, etc. etc. etc. from BYU money. There's a loyalty factor there that the Reynolds family will have to acknowledge. BYU is in every pore of their bodies.



Just like Jimmer Fredette, he's allowed to purchase insurance in the same method, and just like Jimmer he has a lot to gain in the eyes of scouts by returning.



I think if we continue to win, that there will be a feeling that a very special season is on the horizon and I think this will end up being a very difficult decision for him. One possibly made easier by loyal fans letting him know how much he's loved and appreciated.



I wish the best for him regardless... It's not like we'd ever wish an underclassman harm by leaving early... right? :skeptic:

Next year at this time, there is a very real possibility that there will be no professional football or professional basketball. If Reynolds wants to play football for the majority of next year, it will have to be at BYU. We're going to see a lot more of the "can't miss" guys staying this year because of the pending lockout.



On a side note, this is one reason why I was really surprised to see Jimmer come back this year. He would have actually made NBA money this year, had a contract that would probably pay him more than what will be available after the lockout (even if he was an early 2nd round pick), and that contract would probably still have to be honored after the lockout. One of the reasons Shawn Bradley left (and I know there are many) was that he knew that the rookie salary scale was going to be put into place.

I hope and pray that Matt Reynolds returns and that his love for BYU trumps his desire to gamble on the NFL lockout.

I am thrilled to see the team more motivated and focused.

I am more than willing to eat some crow if some feel that necessary regarding some of my criticisms of his lack of leadership and lack of "All-American" quality of play.

BUt I also recognize that this offense needed far more than he could provide and i think he was just going through the motions feeling as powerless as many (for whatever the reasons--from Heaps or receivers poor play or Anae's poor playcalling)

Hopefully Jimmer's experience helps sway Matt back for another year. Maybe we can play a game in his hometown!

C'mon back MAtt! ESPN and Cougar football 2011 (and your play) will bring you back to prominence and more money in your rookie nfl year than a third round pick will for three years of pay. And that doesnt even include your potential 1st round draft pick signing bonus--which very well could be in excess of 1 million or more!

Get your insurance policy and come back and do something very special with the Cougs and then make more money than you can imagine.

If he gets bites as a first rounder or early second rounder he would be foolish to pass up that kind of money. I would say to him best of luck. We have his brother waiting in the wings anyways. :)

Houston Reynolds plays center, Matt Reynolds plays left tackle. While both are important, LT>Center. For details, see NFL salaries.



Having said that, if Matt comes back, he and Houston will be playing together next year. Houston played great yesterday when he took over for Brown. He is going to be a great Center for us. I would expect him to start next year and see T. Brown move to Guard. With Matt back, that line will be awesome again.
