“This isn’t a shock to me,” said Heaps... “We could have been doing this since Week 1.”

...If our Offensive Coordinator didn't sucK?

The Cougars ran an unsuccessful flea-flicker earlier this season in a loss at Utah State. "We didn't call it at the right time," Heaps said of the Cougars' first flea-flicker attempt. "I think we set it up well (on Saturday). (Opponents are) really worried about our run game right now."

So... the Utah State game would have went better if we ran the ball on them, instead of throwing 40+ times... which we did because our Offensive Coordinator sucks?

I hope Heaps does not join the small minds that keep wanting to replay the past instead of moving forward and playing the here and now.

I am not very interested in what Heaps or Mars thinks we could have been doing since week 1. Talk is cheap. Heaps predicted we would win our last 10.

Keep focused and improving. Maybe we beat UNM - maybe blow them out. Maybe Utah loses at SDSU - may well happen. I love the Utes except when they play BYU, but expected them to lose today, will not be surprised to see them lose to SDSU on the road, and if Heaps continues to throw the way he did today, BYU will beat Utah and win their bowl game.

When we win these 3, then tell me what we could have done on the road at AFA, FSU, and at home vs UNR who is probably better than any of our next three opponents.

So you think Heaps wants Anae fired? He may, but I doubt you'd agree.

Do you think anything actually worth sharing, little troll?

It was the command the quarterback had of the Cougar offense, the poise he showed, frequently changing plays at the line of scrimmage and working through his receivers until he found one that was a suitable option.

Can anyone verify this? Was Heaps really changing the plays a bunch at the line? If so, can we attribute the dramatically improved play calling to Anae or just assume that Heaps has finally taken charge?

FWIW the article was written by Monson, who we know is a tool.

How about taking comments from the visitors, and none from the home team!

Lazy freakin' reporters, I guess they know that CS has no fans, and hate BYU-remember those articles that guaranteed BYU was staying? And then guaranteed BYU was going to fall hard?

Look at this comment

Anyone notice how there isn't a single comment from any Ram, player or coach? Fairchessy is an awful coach. He'll probably fire D coordinator Kerr and the secondary coach after the season, much like the demotion of the O coordinator after last season to recruiter. See the pattern? Instead of taking the all responsiblity for the last 2 dismal seasons, Faircheesy blames everyone from players, coaches and the University for not having great facilities. Its time for him to be fired. These embarassing loses are just too much for this alumni to

handle.

We threw 40+ times because utah state scored on 4 out of their 5 possessions in the 1st half which put us down 24-3.

You mean the club you are president of? It is hilarious that you would have the gall to post that, when you continue bring up how much Heaps sucked until recently. Unbelievable.

Amen. I don't mind people making a case for why Anae should be fired. But using Airwolfian reasoning to do it just makes all of us dumber.

Bingo. But I'll probably be called a closed-minded troll because I agree with this. Unlike the open-minded posters who automatically dismiss anything posted by certain fans on the board.

I think Jake is better now than in game 1 due to experience, reps with his receivers in practice, and finally getting some confidence from success on the field. The last 2 weeks he has looked like a better QB. Play calling is part of it for sure, better timing with receivers is part of it, fewer drops to allow the team to convert 3rd downs and get into a rhythm is part of it. Bronco taking over the team is the biggest part of it, though. Him taking over changed the trajectory of this season. Showed first with the defense, but then the offense has stepped up too. Too bad it didn;t happen the week prior to the USU game. Regardless, sets us up well for 2011.

I think just watching the games helps confirm that Heaps is doing a better job of checking down and finding a receiver that is open. That comes with experience. I think we can all agree on a couple of things:

1) Heaps has more experience now than he did at the beginning of the season

2) He is playing like a more experienced quarterback now

3) Monson is a tool ;)

Heaps was doing a great job of reading what the defense was doing. I didn't necessarily notice motion being used, but he seemed to recognize when and from where CSU was blitzing when they did. He seemed to understand who was going to be in one-on-one coverage and then putting the ball in spot where our receiver could make a play on it. And then, those receivers were actually making plays.

Remind me, how did that work out for us again?

It was a bad call, the game proved that. Not that any of us ever expect Anae to make the right call once BYU gets down and he throws out his gameplan. That's one of his most glaring, obvious weaknesses- even to guys like Schmoe.

Utah State wouldn't have even had 5 possessions in the first half if Dumb Anae was running the ball with JJ and Quezada.

Mars, do you really know anything about football? How many possesions did SDSU get in the first half this year. Remember the game where BYU had the ball for 45 out of 60 minutes in the game? The answer is: 6. Time of possesion has nothing to do with the amounts of possesions that you get in a game. I did a quick gander at BYU's drive charts for all of its games and 5 possesions in a half is pretty average. But I guess if you want to keep blaming Robert Anae for everything, I can't change that but when you make statements above that really expose your knowledge of the game of football, it is going to be very difficult for me to take anything you say with any validity.

The only people who know if Heaps is changing plays at the line are the coaches and the players in the huddle. Unless someone told Monson, he is just (once again) talking out of his backside.

I work with the local high school and one of the things I havee implemented is the"false audible" where the offense lines up, the quarterback addresses the center, surveys the defense, backs out of center and barks some garbled call that implements some of our usual call terminology. The receivers or backs move around a bit and the play goes on. What the defense couldn't know is that the audible is just jibberish and the entire routine is planned. It puts doubt into the defense, changes the formation, and makes it harder for the defense to decipher our calls.

Other offenses will give the QB a formation and 2 or 3 plays in the huddle, and he only chooses the play after the defense is set--not changing the play, just picking the best out of a few options. That's what BYU has done in the past with Hall and Beck.

So, just because a QB is yelling and players are moving doesn't mean the play isbeing changed.

Plus, it is like another poster said, if he is changing the play, he is doing what he was coached to do.
