Ashworthless?

For three straight weeks now Ashworth has really stepped up his game. He was outstanding today and it looks like he has an extra gear out on the field now.



He certainly had disappointing moments during the first half of the season, but he has stepped it up big time as of late.



What I'm getting at is that I saw several references on the board calling him as 'Ashworthless' when the team was going through the tough spell. There were those who said he should never see the field again. It's great to see that he's persevered and proved his critics wrong.



For all those that were were disparaging him in that way, I hope you can now man up and offer him an apology. His re-emergence should be a great lesson to us that we shouldn't be so quick to write off players.

dang! I just posted something along these same lines. I thought it was a dumb nickname all along. I hate it when any BYU player gets torn down, especially by his own fans.



The guy has been money.

For 2/3s of the season he's Ashworthless, for 1/3 he is Ashworth. I'd prefer a whole 3/3 of the latter 1/3.





So now I'll turn my attention to others: Jacobson is Jacobdaughter, playing like a...he did have some presence today, but leadership not where I thought it'd be.

I always love to see fans who have never suited up a down in college football call our players worthless and pansies. These guys are incredible athletes just to be worthy to suit up on gameday with the BYU uniform. I'd love to see you line up against Ashworth or Jacobson and see who gets completely worked. I'm sure anyone who would be a witness to that matchup could decisively say who really plays like a woman.

You need to step back & lighten up. There are facts we don't know. To name call these guys when they leave it out there on the field every day. Sweat, blood, serious time & effort!! You sit there @ your computer & filet these guys - way wrong.

Anyone that quits on their routes doesn't earn my respect and doesn't deserve to see the field. He has been given a chance to show differently, and has done so. He has earned my respect and his time on the field. I am not going to take anything back, because he quit on me before I quit on him.



Don't let a few good games - one of them being stellat - let you forget that he was giving up on routes and dropping anything thrown his way. Like BYU he has had 2 halves. Ashworthless, and AshWorth more than his weight in gold.





I am elated to see him do well. We need him to play like this. And I hope he continues like this.

you're entitled to your opinion, but there is that pesky high ankle sprain that I keep hearing about. Obviously Ashworth wasn't milking it because we never heard one excuse out of him. how much that affected his performance no one knows. Looks like it may have been a major factor now that it's healed and he's a completely different receiver.



i still disagree with giving derogatory names to players who wear the Y.

Normally Special Teams is reserved for non-starters. Keeps them from getting injured and allows some playing time for reserves to really fly around and hit people full speed. Heard on the radio today that they caught ashworth playing special teams today. They said it was because he's a senior and wanted to make whatever difference he could in his last few games.



Sounds like someone sat him down to talk to him. Huge change mid-season. Thanks for starting this thread so I could mention this and give credit where credit is due.

Ashworthy

The fact that the team is now rolling in the passing game does not mean that there were no problems before. Remember how just a few games ago, Bronco called out the receivers as a group, telling them to get with the program?



This is not to rain on Luke's big day. It was a joy to see him perform, as his athleticism and sure handedness seem to have exploded. I wonder if the story about his ankle healing up has anything to do with his comeback. At any rate, good for Luke, and God bless him.



I also do not condone name calling against players who are struggling, and I will acknowledge that at no time in my life could I have played neck and neck with guys like McKay and Luke. I enjoy sports, and can ski and ice skate quite well, but would not have been competitive at Div I FB. But I digress.



Now is the time to celebrate what is happening---now. And, after a little time spent in the wilderness, it sure feels good.

Ashworth was amazing today and has turned around considerably. Good for him and the team and great to watch.

And, His ankle wasnt dropping balls early in the season.

I was as disappointed with Ashworth as anyone - and he deserved it. He played awful. Beyond awful.



But I sure am happy that he's playing so well now. There'll never be any situation where I am upset to see a BYU player perform well. I'm glad he turned it around.

are you kidding? At the college level you don't think something like an ankle sprain might throw off timing, route running, cutting or coming off the ground a certain way when you jump? Something like a high ankle sprain (have you ever had a HAS?) could alter all of that, making balls much more difficult to catch. If the sprain was bad enough it would have been like learning to play receiver all over again. Which I believe is what we were seeing.

Thank you Sister Ashworth for starting this thread...but Luke wasn't the only one getting called out for quitting in games

Jake hasn't ever quit.

If it was the ankle sprain causing him so much trouble, why was he in there at all? If you can't make the plays you shouldn't be in the game. No way I could keep up with ashworth today, but nearly any of us could have performed like he did early in the year. Glad he's back though and even though I thought he should have been benched, I don't agree with personal attacks and name calling of our players either.
