Javan Hedlund, associate commissioner of the Mountain West Conference, said he understands that the typical college football fan might not be inclined to scan Versus on Saturday.

"The way things are right now," Hedlund said, "if you're not on the ESPN family of networks, you're not on television."

# Yes, an MWC official really told the L.A. Times that if you aren't on ESPN, you really aren't on television. By the way, no TV for BYU-FSU.

AKA: This guy who will replace Hair someday knows and understands BYUs route of choosing millions and ESPN over staying under the blanket of the mwc/mtn and being treated poorly was a smart decision.

The irony is that none of the PAC schools are on the espn family either. So in talking to the LA media is he saying the MWC and PAC are in the same boat exposure wise. The MWC heads are arrogant enough to believe that.

hahaha - Hair jr. might not be hair jr? He will be getting the job as soon as TCU leaves for x conference, so there you go? Too bad for the MWC he wasn't there 5 years earlier.

PAC10 is on ABC, which is also owned by Disney, so the highlights get on, and an ABC game is great since it includes ESPN announcers quite often. Plus, the new TV deal the PAC is doing will include ESPN, not just Fox. PAC will be fine, MWC will not.

I thought one of the issues ESPN had was the lack of a significant western presence. Didn't realize the new deal would include ESPN.

The "national" distribution deal (versus) is up soon, and the mwc is positioning themselves to make a deal with ESPN. Thompson said something similar back during the pre-season meetings in Vegas on one of the local radio stations.

Problem is, with BYU gone, and to a lessor extent Utah, ESPN won't pay even what they were offering last time.

Yeah, is the Mtn really going into the ESPN offices saying "hey, we can offer you TCU and Boise St (which you already have), so whaddaya say?"

The only way I see a MWC deal happening with ESPN is if ESPN decides that the MWC is essentially the new WAC.

ESPN doesn't want them. BS won't be good and are overrated. Hair doesn't want ESPN cause he is a dumb a**

The reason that they won't want the new MWC is because they already own the Dallas/Ft. Worth market and they really don't care about the Boise market. Is has nothing to do with how overrated any team is, it has everything to do with how many TV's turn on.

Based on the title of this thread, I thought this was going to be about something Craig Thompson said. I just always thought assistant was abbreviated asst.

My thoughts, initially. Then I remembered that everyone at the mwc is an ass.

asst. is correct, but ass is fitting as byutx mentioned.
