What does the BCS/NCAA tell TCU/Boise if Newton gets busted?

I can't stop thinking about how as bad as the BCS system is, that the worst thing about Oregon and Auburn meeting in the national championship is how it affects TCU and Boise because of Cam Newton and not because of the corrupt system that wont' allow the best team to prevail.

Auburn loses - Newton gets busted - TCU and Boise mad, believing they could have beaten Oregon

Auburn wins - Newton gets busted - everyone mad, NC is vacated?

I see no way anyone benefits if Auburn gets there, if Newton is proven to have done something that should have made him ineligible and given all his past issues, I have a hard time believing the money allegations aren't true.

I also wonder where the heads of the SEC are right now... are they hoping that Georgia or Bama knock Auburn off to take the heat off of the SEC or are they just in it for a payday and are rootin for the greedy eagles?

The SEC doesn't really care about cheaters. That's the bottom line.

The SEC heads are running for cover, because they look incompetent and unethicalfor sitting on this story. Trying to excuse away their inactivity by saying they are not an investigative body is a joke. They had a duty to pass it on to the NCAA as soon as they heard it, and didn't. This is blowing up on the SEC and if things go down the wrong way, another nail in the coffin of the BCS. If Auburn wins out and makes it, anyting they get will be vacated, because the kid is Reggie Bush v2.0. And everyone knows it.

Best case scenario is Auburn loses, Oregon loses, and hte world goes crazy when TCU and BSU square off for all the marbles. But I do not see Oregon losing.

The SEC will delay their investigation until after the season (no matter what they say). That way, they'll get another BCS championship and Heisman winner. A year or two later things will come out, Newton will be stripped of the Heisman, and they'll think about taking away the championship. But it won't matter, because the school and Newton will already have reaped the benefits of the fame and publicity. The NCAA will give them a slap on the wrist, and the guilty parties will be happy, because the benefits of cheating greatly outweigh the punishments they'll have to endure.

Not sure USC would agree with that. And it was just a Heisman given back. If Auburn wins a title, wow, that would be an epic punishment, especially with all the publicity now and how Auburn is defending the kid. If it blows up, and they continue defending it, they will get SMU type slapped around and will have to be. The NCAA has to let teams know this crap can not happen, and if schools want to test it, they will pay big time.

Auburn has a better than 50% chance of losing to Bama imho. THen their is the SEC Championship game which is easy to forget about. Itis hard to imagine Auburn remaining unbeated. THey are mediocre at best on defense. THey have narrowly escpated defeat in a couple of pervious outings.

Oregon has a 75% or better chance of remaining undefeated. There is not yet a PAC 10 championship game to worry about and that will help Oregon - and much as I hate to say it out loud - Oregon is very good.

But that is not the owrry for TCU and BSU. THey need to worry about jumping each other. More importantly, other BCS teams are posied to jump them even with 1 loss. And the BCS voters in the human polls will not be objective. You better hope Bama smacks Auburn and then loses the SEC CHampionship game - which could happen - becasue Bama is not unbeatable either.

Then you better hope a couple of other 1-loss teams get a 2nd loss. YOu have to wish the coach of Iowa State didn't fail on his two-point converson attempt. That would have knocked out a team that might jump TCU, and it would have strengthened TCUs schedule since TCU beat Utah badly after Utah beat Iowa State badly.

The SEC does care about cheaters. It is SEC policy that all schools must cheat in every way possible to promote the myth of SEC supremacy. The SEC abhors one thing and one thing only - A Level Playing FIeld

As the saying goes in the SEC--If you don't chaet, you aren't really trying....

Of course, teh SEC does not want to bo complicit in the cheating, and they now appear to be as they sat on the info MSU passed on to them. The NCAA needs to come down on the league offices if Newton is found to have vilated NCAA rules, because the SEC did not self report timely when given the info.

If Alabama beats Auburn, Auburn still plays in the SEC Championship game. Alabama has 2 loses.

Lose some scholarships and postseason games for two years to play in two BCS championship games, win one, have a third declared for you by the Associated Press, and have a Heisman winner. Yeah, I'd say that USC is really sad that they cheated, really sad *SARCASM*

Maybe I'm reading this all wrong, but it seems like all these Mississippi State boosters and supporters are basically admitting to attempting to cheat. Now they are calling foul on Auburn. It seems like the only real reason they are upset is because they think Newton ended up going to Auburn for less money than they ponied up. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong here.

Sour grapes is how the Reggie Bush thing went down too; the agent that lent the money ended up not representing him and the moment he saw his money go down the drain, he started speaking up.

Whatever MSUs motives are, it's clear that Cam Newton, his father, and his handler were out to get money and MSU representatives didn't initially report because they probably considered it and also knew that it wouldn't look good to even be a potential player in this story.

This only lends to the belief that someone from Auburn coughed up more.. We havent' heard the last of this but it's clear that Cam's father solicited $$$ for his sons services.

That would be good enough for me to suspend a player indefinately until the truth works itself out. If they can suspend kids that went to a party in Miami or Dez Bryant for hanging out with Michael Irvin,, etc. then they should suspend Newton asap.

   You're kidding right? We're talking about Auburn, in the middle of a NC* run, suspending their star quarterback!? Good one. They, just like almost every other team out there is going to see how this plays out and hope for the best, even if they know it may cost them.

Sounds like MSU was 1-Offered cam Newton for $180K, 2-Stopped recruiting Cam Newton, 3-Informed on Cam Newton to the NCAA.

Then, 4-The NCAA did nothing, and 5-Cam Newton's father got $200K from Auburn, where 6-He signed.

Supposedly.

holy freaking crap people - I can't believe how many BYU fans are still so worried about BSU and TCU playing for a national championship.

Am I honestly the only one on this forum who wants to see both teams fail miserably?

Good for MSU. Assuming this is all true.

The more I read about the situation, the more that it becomes apparent that either:

1) MSU deserves commended for their honesty

or

2) MSU is pissed they didn't get Newton and are looking to screw over him, Auburn, and the SEC

then again, could be a combination of both

Possibly. I think Chris Petersen and Gary Patterson are excellent coaches, and except for when it would adversely affect BYU, I've always rooted for them, especially against BCS teams. I love how they have taken supposedly inferior talent and coached them into champions that believe they can beat anyone in the nation. To me, that's the kind of thing that makes college football the best sport in the world. I've always believed that the 85 scholarship limit has introduced a great deal of parity to the sport, and that the biggest difference between the winning team and the losing team is coaching. And my hat's off to these guys for giving credence to that theory. I just wish we would beat them ourselves. :)

Probably. I'm not sure what your problem is with either team unless you live in Boise or Dallas. TCU is a very good football team this year, possibly the best in the land next to maybe Oregon. Good football needs to be respected regardless of how mad you are at the conference.
