Rumors on CB about Holt and Wilson

According to furman who has claimed to be Holt's dad :D coaches have asked holt and wilson to think about changing to defense, holt as defensive end and wilson as linebacker.



i don't believe it but i thought i would pass it along for people who like the speculation.

This was the year we needed another linebacker... next year we're loaded. Wilson will not beat out Fua VanNoy, Frazier or Pendleton and he's too soft to play MLB arguably too soft to play OLB, or he might have made the transition work the 1st time they tried it.



Holt at DE, I get. He could be Ryan Denney or Brett Keisel-esque.. which equals an NFL paycheck and a good college player. Immediately he's a player at strongside DE.



The other thought was Oline, but Hansen and Brown aren't going anywhere soon and Holt is too big and athletic to leave off the field. Given some questions about his speed, DE makes sense. He is plenty quick for DE. He has to buy in though, transitions like the one Braden Brown made are the exception, not the rule.

I heard this as well. And as to Holt, I have no problem with it. He is not a speed guy, but has good size and might make fora great DE. As to Wilson, not sure I am happy with that. He is the fastest guy we have, has the highest RER. He is smallest, so perhaps Anae wants bigger guys, but Wilson is good.

This might also indicate that the coaches like Mahina and Mathews and already know what Friel can do after his mission. Mathews looks to be a great fit and just needs to build his body type up for it. He has the quicks, the height, and big hands; he just needs the bulk. He also has a warriors mentality, ala George and Pitta.

Regardless of who transfers or moves positions, we obviously have too many bodies at the TE position, so a couple guys are going to need to move. We have more depth than is required there now as it is, in addition to kids just off missions, or on them now. I suspect a couple will be moved if they ever want to play. DE makes sense, possibly LB.



Speaking of rumors, I am hearing that a top recruit from the 2009 class that is redshirting this year is considering transferring. Apparently it is part cultural issues, part football. If the kid leaves, could be a huge loss because he was a really big get. Hope the rumors are false, or if true, that he decides to stay in Provo.

Ross Apo??? Is he even redshirting at all? I don't know the rules once they have had surgery.

NOt sure Holt is fast enough for D-end. He moves more like an Oline guy. Slow feet. BUt very thick. His frame could support another 80 pounds. Maybe B Brown is an exception, but I think Holt could do it as well.

If Anae is not fired, we lose at least two of the highly touted tight ends we landed. Mark my words. Bronco needs to step in and fix this mess. Its already out of hand.

Completely agreed. Holt could make a good OL, but may be too slow to play DE. Unless he bounces back in a major way from his post-mission speed.



Sampson might make a better DE...



Wilson, he's our best Blue Zone tight end on the team. Absolutely the best. Anae is a bonehead.



If I had to guess a freshman that is shaky about playing in Provo next year, it would be Kori Gaines. And if he left, Drew Phillips would likely leave as well. But that's just thinking out loud.



If an upperclassmen were to leave the team, Lee Aguirre could be the favorite.



Like I've said before, I worry about guys like Travis Tuiloma, Manu Mulitalo, and Famika Anae staying academically eligible.



I wonder how other guys like Jordan Johnson, Blair Tushaus, and Collin Keoshian (and DeQuan Everett) are doing with the culture shock as well.



I wonder if guys like Fua, Tautu, Moore, Black, Brown, Rowley, and Fabuluje (and Kaveinga, Atkinson, Bills, Timo/Hine, Friel, Jorgensen, Afo, Dulan, Vaitai, Yeck, Ryker Mathews, Mitch Mathews, and Justin Sorensen, just to name a few) will make an immediate impact next year.



Or how guys like Jake Heaps, Josh Quezada, Ross Apo, Austin Holt, Brian Wilson, Devin Mahina, Kyle Van Noy, Thomas Bryson, Jray Galea'i, and Josh Stout are dealing with being so badly mismanaged.....

Well MARS - if you can read - there are quotes I read as recently as this morning that you can find by following the links in the little box to the right, where Heaps said it has been a lot of fun, he has learned a lot, and that he would not take anything back.



The toughest thing for a recruit, especially if new to the LDS culture and living in Utah, is losing. They did not come here to lose. They are not losers.



THere is an article staring you in the face over at th eright at this moment called breaking down Jake Heaps. It does a very positive spin on Jake Heaps while clearly pointing out that his ACCURACY and CONSISTENCY jumped leaps and bounds last Saturday. I will repeat again here for you and I recommend you go click on that article and read it -



If Jake Heaps throws with the same level of accuracy and touch and timing and location for 4 quarters, we will beat CSU handily and Anae will again look like a great play caller and the receivers will look like decent but not spectacular receivers and the running game will be explosive and the defense will have good field position all day.



If Jake regresses and throws in the vicinity balls that are arguably cacthable, but not spot on - completion % will suffer, defenders will draw up and focus on the run, playcalling will look bad as drives stall and BYU D will be on the field too much and give up a big play or two and a pick 6 or fumble deep in our territory will cost us that game.



I hope road jitters don't get Jake all jumpy. If he is comfortable in the pocket and fundamentally souncd like he is in practice and was last week - big win for BYU.



THen NM is a cake walk at hjome if Heaps plays that same way.



Then Utah is beatable if he can do it again in a hostile environment.



If Heaps is on - BYU can win out and win a bowl game against a mediocre opponent.



On that winning note, you won't see many, if any, people transferring unless they do not want to live the honor code oe see themsleves in a log jam behind too many good players.



Losing a year of eligibiliy to transfer is something that very few players ultimatley do.
