Connections with the BYU dance team?

This is important to me so please take this seriously.



I could use the help of anyone that has knowledge of or connections with the BYU women's dance team. And I am not talking about ballroom I mean the ones that are like cheerleaders but do dance routines. Are they called Cougarettes? I am not sure. Anyway my daughter is captain of her high school dance team and she would like to go BYU next year. However, it is more important to her to be on a dance team.



The problem is the BYU tryouts are the same time as the Idaho state championships. So it seems that every girl form idaho is left out of BYU tryouts. Because of this she has been applying to and been accepted by other schools whose tryouts don't conflict, one of which is U of U. She is too smart and too pretty to be amongst :utard: . She may have the highest GPA in her high school so she can qualify academically anywhere.



Are there any other tryout dates or are any exceptions or accommodations made for this kind of scheduling conflict?

Good luck with that, I hope she gets the chance to try out. I know the Cougarettes have won the national championship like 4 years in a row or something outrageous so they are pretty elite.

Yeah!!! GO COUGARS!!!

I hometaught a few Cougarettes back in the day. Nice girls--also really talented and really cute. They'd always manage to snag me tickets to their dance recitals.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought that BYU had a policy that prevented freshman from being on cheer and dance teams? Has this changed?

Sorry, this reminded of my brother-in-law's brother, who out of the blue decided to try out for the cheer team (I think he thought it was his opportunity to pick up a cheerleader, literally and figuratively). Anyway, he made the squad as an alternate, which meant he was more-or-less on the equivalent of the practice squad, since he never suited up. After about a month or two, my sister told me that he quit squad. Apparently, his practice squad lifting partner was too heavy for him to lift. I can only imagine...

You might say that. I dated a girl who went to Weber State her freshman year so she could cheer, then transferred to BYU to cheer her soph year because BYU would not allow her to as a freshman. She was hot, and she is now a famous weather person too....

There are exceptions to every rule.



During my freshman year a friend of mine became absulately smitten with one of the cheerleaders. He found out her name; so, we made a 30 foot long sign asking her out that we smuggled into the opening football game. Needless to say the sign got her attention and got him a phone number. Turned out the object of his affection was also a freshman. So, it's rare that freshman are on the team, but it's not absolute. Seem to remember hearing that they made an exception in her case.

Thanks everyone for your input and comic relief. Thanks CannonCougar85 for pointing me in the right direction. I have no doubt that my daughter has everything it takes to make the team if we can just work out the schedule. She has a 4.0 gpa, her dance team won a national championship last year, she is the captain of her team this year, she is a part time model, and her athletic ability makes me jealous. I was tempted to post her photo but after I fumbled around trying to do it I changed my mind. I will let you know if it works out.
