TCu says NO to Big Least

Unoffically, no as they will not move unless all sports go with it. The big Least has enough basketball programs, no wiggle room there, and TCU is non-existent in other sports but track.





Hence, saying no to just football means NO to big least. I'd be comfortable owning the mwc and getting $ knowing you have no fanbase even though the big Least would be equally owned if I were tcu.

Out of curiosity, I wonder what TM would say if the Big East asked BYU to join in FB only? On the surface I don't think you want to be playing only eastern teams, but I can't honestly say there would not be any advantage to such a situation. We don't have quite the BCS finishes that they probably need that TCU will have over this review period, but we aren't that bad and we do already have a situation where our other sports will not be with the FB program. It probably won't happen as the Big Least won't want to come this far west, but it is an interesting thought.

This seems to be to just be posturing to get a better deal from the Big East, because the Frogs know they would immediately be the best, most consistent football program in the conference. If TCU can get a good football deal from the Big East, and a good other sports deal from CUSA, I think the move would be beneficial to all the parties involved. TCU would get an easy-to-win conference with guaranteed BCS bid with easier travel and a real TV deal; the Big East would bolster its football profile; and CUSA would get another baseball team.

Why would CUSA want TCU's other sports? I don't see the advantage or incentive for them to take those sports in. I do agree this might be an attempt to posture themselves to be considered as a whole or to give them time to explore where their other sports could go, but after the comments their AD made, he would have egg on his face if he did that after making such rants on how their program is unified and could not see doing such a thing to have sports in different conferences.

Maybe the rest of their sports could play in the WAC? :D

It may actually have validity in that who would want tcu in other sports only? Where would they go?



Otherwise if they could work it out, it seems like a no brainer to me. It would provide them with a platform to really increase the statute of their program. It is a bcs conference and also the easiest bcs conference to go undefeated in. they would be contending for the national title every year. It seems like a no brainer to me if they were able to work out what happens with the rest of their sports.

Dang. I was hoping to see this:



1- TCU joins the Big east in football-only.

2- The MWC changes their rules and invited TCU's other sports to stay in the conference (are there NCAA rules against this?).

3- The MWC invites BYU's other sports to re-join the conference. We consider it.

I brought this up in another thread somewhere. Would have been another completely emotional, irrational decision by MWC to accept TCU's other sports and reject the cash cow (BYU). Which is why I could see the MWC trying it.

You know, it's not a bad idea to go to the BE in football only, because you gotta think the football/basketball schools will eventually split, and THAT would lead to a Full Invite for TCU.

I'd bet that the basketball schools are going to split off in the next 2-3 years if football expansion goes through. I think the writing's on the wall--football is going to rule the Big East from here on out, because being the nation's toughest basketball conference doesn't bring in BCS $$$ and associated TV revenue. A conference of DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Notre Dame, Providence, St. John's, Seton Hall, and Villanova would be a formidable conference. Plus they could always poach a few private Atlantic 10 schools like Xavier, Dayton, Richmond, and St. Louis if they needed more.

BYU is in bed with ESPN now..keep that in mind when speculating that BYU would ever change direction from where we're headed. It's a good relationship right now.
