CougarClawPlease note this thread is RESTRICTED to the football forum. I have all kinds of things I could say (and have said) about the basketball team, but this changed how I viewed UNLV football.
When I was at the game, I watched UNLV players hovering over our the 3rd string RB (foote?) when he was knocked cold due to a viscious helmet to helmet hit. I watched these UNLV players hovering adn thought was that they were somehow gloating over their decimation of one of our players and it made my mad. I even said something to the fans around me. Then afterwards I heard Bronco's interview.
One of the first things Bronco said was that as soon as the play was over and it was clear one of the RB's was down, the UNLV safety who committed the helmet to helmet hit met Bronco on the field and said "I'm sorry coach, I didn't mean to hit him like that, that's not the kind of team we are. Please tell him I'm sorry, it wasn't intentional."
Bronco said that the reason UNLV was hovering was because they were concerned for his well-being and that more than one player made that clear. There was honest concern for Foote even when they were down by 55. Bronco also said over the radio that it was one of the best displays of sportsmanship he's ever seen as a head coach.
That was an amazing story to me. Kudos to UNLV and their coaching staff. I'm glad there are players, teams and coaches like this in the world and it makes it clear we do not have a corner in the market for sportsmanship and positive examples.
