Notre Dame

As I see Notre Dame strugging 4-5 through their schedule which includes - EXACTLY 4 ROAD GAMES - it renews my extreme annoyance that Tom Holmoe signed a 4 for 2 deal with the Golden Domers, a 2 for 1 with Texas, and a "neutral" site last year with Oklahoma. I don't mind competing with 2-4 ranked teams per year - but on equal footing please.



BYU needs to get a 4 road game schedule - then we will be clicking.



I think Notre Dame will be 5-5 with a HOME victory over the Utes next week.

Playing Notre Dame = visibility and it also means potential visible wins... They're like dating the hottest girl in the school. Once you do that, others think they want to date you too. The irony was that the hot girl really wasn't much of a conquest, but the attention you got from it was priceless.



Notre Dame looks to others like it's Mount Everest, but truly it's not even Timp... it's a good relationship to have. Winnable, high profile games.

...and as high and as much prominence as Timp has, it's one of the easier to run/climb of the 10,000 foot+ peaks in the Wasatch Range.

P.S. Everest teams have trained on Timp...hence, the "Everest Ridge" part of the mountain.

Notre Dame has always been in a league of their own and even though they haven't had much football success on the national scene over the last decade, I'm sure if we were not willing to give the concession that TM did, we wouldn't have wrapped up a six game series, which we did need. If after this contract is over, or if we negotiate additional games subsequent to the end, and we aren't at the level to demand 1 for 1 games, then shame on us, but it is foolish to think that is where we are yet.

4 times on ABC and 2 times on ESPN > 3 times on ABC and 3 times on ESPN



Playing at Notre Dame 4 times gets us on true national TV (broadcast and not regionalized) more times than we will from any other source during this next decade. If the goal is exposure than this accomplishes the goal. The only other way we end up on national broadcast TV is if we make a BCS bowl.

Notre Dame plays on NBC, not ABC. So it is 4 games on NBC, 2 on ESPN. And to be honest, ESPN drives college football, not ABC, NBC or CBS. Regardless, all 6 will get covered nationally. Just need to go win them.

I think historical precedence drove a lot of this 2 for 1 (or 4 for 2).



If we continue with our historical precedence of only winning one out of three, then scheduling will continue to favor Notre Dame. If we can reverse it an win 4 or more, then we can start getting 1 for 1.

Yeah, that's how Air Force and Navy managed to get 1:1 games against Notre Dame.



[Air Force is 6-22 and Navy is 11-71-1 against Notre Dame.]

ND new BYU wasn't in much of a position to be a begger of 3-3. if BYU wants 6 games they have to take any offer, even though ND isn't special. BYU will never do 2-1 or worse for wac/mwc/bigeast but with very select few.

If Air Force can schedule a 1-1 with Notre Dame, I think BYU could have at least gotten a 2-3 or 3-4.



Either that, or 2-2-2 (2 home, 2 away, and 2 neutral site games in Notre Dame's footprint--e.g., Chicago or Indianapolis). I think BYU could still push for this, and NBC and ND would sign on. Imagine, BYU playing Notre Dame in Soldier Field and Lucas Oil Stadium.

Bah. Who cares? Just start saving up your pennies so you can make the trip to South Bend with me!
