Receiver Ratings

Amazing what happens when guys make plays. When the catch the ball. When they run after the catch. For QBs the magic number is a rating of 140. Look how many receivers hit the magic number.



Ashworth: 254.53

Kariya: 217.60

Hoffman: 201.76

Jacobson: 197.60

Hafoka: 192.40

DiLuigi: 153.92

Mahina: 150.40

Peterson: 150.40

Matthews: 43.90

Did you leave a one off of Matthews rating?

What goes into receiver ratings? Yac? Ypc? Completions per attempt? Td? All of the above?

Those numbers don't seem accurate. I'm not saying they are but they seem really high seeing as Heaps' rating was 166 in this game. Even with Matthews' low rating the other's ratings are extremely high.

I know Mathews had one drop. Hit both hands. I think total we only had 3 or 4 drops all game which is an improvement.

The drops that we did have were big ones though. We can't drop TD passes. Also Hoffman should have had a TD on his reception near the end zone. He almost dropped it (i think the reason he almost dropped it was because he jumped a little when there was no reason to jump) and then stummbled.

Heaps' rating was actually 162 not 166 like i previously mentioned. The average of the numbers above is 173 and the guys who saw most of the targets have ratings much higher than Heaps 162. Does the receiver rating not have to equal the QB rating and just completely different or are those numbers incorrect?

There were a few recievers who were thrown at and not completed, like Zed Mendenhall. PER isn't just an average of RER. Meaning a QB won't have a rating of 150 if two receivers had an RER of 100 and the other 200.



RER and PER take into account, yards per attempt, yards per completion, completion percentage, TDs and INTs. I didn't include anyone with a 0 rating. Receivers potentially could have much higher or lower ratings than the QB, because they're going to have much smaller sample sizes (i.e. a receiver who has one catch on one attempt that went for a TD is going to have a 100% completion percentage and TD percentage which are going to skew his rating because it was just the one attempt.)

I think the drops we saw Saturday were about what you'd expect from any team--even the good ones. I think we are all just a little too conscious of/sensitive with drops after the previous 8 weeks of experience.

You can handle a drop or two. But what we yesterday that we weren't seeing in previous weeks were guys making catches. The throw to McKay in the 1st half over the middle was a great catch. JJ's catch on the sideline where Jake dropped the ball into him were catches we weren't making a month ago.
