What's with the backlash???

Since word came out that BYU was thinking of combining the student section to copycat other more successful student sections throughout the country, I've been shocked by how many season tickets holders have a serious problem with this. I mean, I know people resist change, but have they NEVER been to a BYU/Utah game at RES since the advent of the MUSS???

Or to the swamp? The entire East Side Bleachers was the student section, complete with psychos screaming all kinds of things at the visiting team in front of them. They should do the same in LES. East side--student section and visiting team side.

It is completely understandable to me. Think if you are a season ticket holder who has been sitting in the same seats for 10, 15. 20+ years. You've never requested different seats because you love the seats you have. Maybe you love them because they are aisle seats or they're right above a portal or something and the sun is at your back at all times. Now you're getting kicked out and moved to the north endzone where you are stuck staring into the sun from the exact middle of a section instead of an aisle seat with the band blaring in your ears every 2 minutes.



I'd be pretty upset too.



I understand completely why BYU is considering it and I think it's a good idea, although I like the idea of placing the student section in the north endzone better. If you are a season ticket holder that is getting moved you definitely have to have a "take one for the team" mentality or else you will be ticked.

Couldn't agree more here. Totally disagree with putting the students in an endzone---it pretty much takes them out of the game. The students can make a far difference being close to the opposing team---they would be loud regardless of team position on the field and they would mess with the coaches calls and players on the sideline. Students on the east side = advantage BYU.

It's kind of interesting because BYU is one of the only home teams in the country that stands on the east side. Usually teams make the visitors stare into the sun. I think Crowton switched it to the west side a few times though.

I guess my post assumed we should move the visitors to the East side so they can bake in the setting sun during the early part of the season and our team could relax in the shade. Anyway, just a thought. You want the visiting team write next to your most raucous group of fans--typically your crazy students.



P.S. I like the idea of the event staff being able to filter who gets those seats up close to the other team by the proper attire.

It's clear when the opponent converts a 3rd down that the fans weren't cheering loud enough. When they score, not enough fans were standing up. When they break a long run because of a broken coverage an insufficient amount of fans were jumping up and down.



How about if the fans who do go the game and complain about other fans who do go and don't cheer loud enough for them just stay away. I'm tired of being told how I should behave at a game. It's my ticket. It's my money. If I just want to sit and listen to Wrubbel on the radio and cheer when we score, then let me do it.

I'm only 33 but I do feel like an old fuddy-duddy sometimes. I used be a huge fan. I got in BYU fans' faces who were leaving the WAC champ game against AF early. I screamed at them, "You spent $50 on a ticket and you're going to leave early? The game's not over! We're only down 7 and have the ball." We did lose.



I got so mad watching the BYU-UNR in 2002, the boy outside cutting my grass hear me yelling and asked if I was ok. I put a hole in the wall when Berry fumbled the exchange against Utah in 2002. Then I got deployed. I remember listening to the Wyoming game in 2003. I would call my Dad and he would put the phone next to KSL and I'd listen. When Wyoming won that game, all I could do was hang up and go back to my bunk. I haven't been the same since.



I go to the games to be entertained. I still follow it passionately, but I feel much more like a spectator than a participant. I can't affect the outcome. So I try to be more calm and composed and just enjoy it.

That's funny because I've done the same thing with having the parents put the phone up to the radio and listen that way when there was no other means.



I've also tried to get to the point where losing doesn't ruin my day. I'm getting there. Slowly.



I'd rather see the fans in the center of the east stands. Better for TV.

Where will they put current season ticket holders from the SE end zone?
