What are you guys thinking? I have to believe that the voting was rigged. How do you let a guy like Harry Reid get re-elected?

My mind is still reeling. Especially after comments like these

“Republicans must take their responsibility to solve the problems of ordinary Americans,” Reid said. “Simply saying ‘no,’ as we’ve had this past Congress … won’t bring jobs back. It won’t strengthen the economy, and it won’t help families who are struggling to make ends meet. ‘No’ is not the answer. It has to be ‘yes.’ Not our ‘yes,’ but a combined ‘yes,’ something we work out — a consensus ‘yes.’”

“Playing to a draw in the United States Senate for political score is not acceptable to the American people,” added Durbin. “We need to work together. The Senate will be the crucible for some of the most important issues of our day.”

Specifically, Schumer said the 112th Congress will “focus on the middle class like a laser,” and he expects, as per tradition, Republicans will insist on tax cuts and Democrats will defend spending on infrastructure. However, Schumer also acknowledged Democrats “don’t have the monopoly on knowledge.”

Asked about the lame-duck session scheduled to start Nov. 15, Reid said “a number of issues” could be taken up and he has begun talks with McConnell on the agenda. (GREAT!!!!!!!! can't wait Harry!!!)

Does this guy just not get it? Does he not realize that the reason the house was flipped on it's top is because America is TOed. The reason he was almost voted out was because he didn't let republicans have ANY say whatsoever in the last couple big bills that he and others crammed through. Good grief man. Get with it.

I just have to mention this. I'm in Philadelphia right now and as I was driving to scouts on Tuesday evening I noticed a sparkling, brand new, tinted windows, white lincoln driving right in front of me in some of the urban neighborhoods. On the top of the car was mounted megaphones. I cut my music and rolled my window down. Whadda know.... Barack Obama is speaking to me! To a hip-hop beat. Telling me that in 08 I helped get the job done and he's depending on me to help further his plans in 2010, so get out and vote. I wonder who was paying for that dude to drive around and blare his propoganda. I've never seen anything like it.

I was just thinking this the other day.

Nevada has been going downhill big time over recent years - particularly economically - at a time when it once appeared to be thriving. Harry Reid has screwed over that state nearly as much as he has the country.

Californian's, step aside... citizens of Nevada now appear to be dumbest people in America.

Sorry...we Californians are at least 20 to 30 percent stupider than Nevadans how else can one explain voting in a governor who was crappy 30 years ago BACK for a second round of crappieness

I used to say that I was glad that we had Nevada as a buffer from the buffoonery of California, now it seems to have spread :(

Harry Reid is one messed up dude and has been for a long time. He has lied and lived a lie for so long that is all he knows how to do. I don't know if the election was rigged or not (dems always try to cheat, sometimes they get away with it and sometimes they don't) but the only reason he has gotten re-elected so many times is because he uses the church and owns the union vote (what a combination). As far as I am concerned that is the only reason he is LDS. I think he is phony. (I have been in meetings with the guy.) He is one of the richest senators but he has never held a real job in his life and is supposedly a humble boy from Searchlight.

A phenomenon that has me concerned is that many members of the church will vote for someone solely because he is LDS or believe what is said on KSL because it is owned by the church. Think about it, it is a sad statement that Stinking Harry wouldn't get re-elected without the LDS vote. It reminds me of Book of Mormon times when the church (members) became so corrupt that they supported evil doers.

We Californians elected Jerry Brown...hard to explain. The guy's clueless. But the re-election of Senator Barbara Boxer? Oh man, guys. That one is beyond comprehension. I actually had hope on Nov. 2 that my vote would help get rid of her for good. I just don't get what people are thinking out there.

Or you talking about Reid's re-election or Bush's?

That phenomenon does not exist in Idaho. Here, in heavily mormon areas of the State a faithful LDS candidate who is a democrat will nevertheless be rejected in favor of the republican every time, regardless of whether the republican is anti-mormon or an inactive LDS member. I am not complaining but just reporting the facts. This will occur even when the two candidates' positions are quite close on the actual issues of the race.

Hmmm? If I had the time it would be interesting to look into factors that contribute to the differences. I know most Nevada LDS are transplants. Are Idaho LDS of more local heritage?

Do you like Winston-Salem? That is a place I have always wanted to visit. Not for the Krispy Creme but for the history.

But I thought a faithful LDS person couldn't be a democrat?

In all seriousness I wonder how LDS people can be socially liberal nowadays. If you side with democrats on fiscal and economic issues, fair enough. But I have trouble understanding how any faithful LDS member can support politicians who support gay marriage, abortion, etc. etc. Democrats are getting more and more liberal, and liberals are moving further and further way from Christianity and everything that it stands for. In a way, faithful LDS members who are democrats DO surprise me.

But of course they can! In Utah, at least, the Repubs serve in their offices and the Dems get called to be Mission Presidents.... ;)

There is nothing fair about liberal economics. In fact it's probably just as damning as the liberal social agenda. No free people can sustain itself through generations of entitlement without regard to individual accountability.

The sad part about liberals in general is that they lie to themselves about being generous and sympathetic when in reality dems simply vote for measures that will tax somebody else (ie the "wealthy") and then use that money to support the liberal causes. Guaranteed if a democrat ran for office saying, "Universal health care is a right (all the dems cheer) so we're going to tax the middle class, unions and create a special entertainers tax for Hollywood to pay for it"....not a single dem would vote for that guy. So, instead the dems run for office saying how they'll give the liberals all their entitlement programs and tax the republicans to pay for it.

I can count on 1 hand the number of truly generous dems I've met in my life. The rest are just way too willing to spend somebody else's money and then take the credit for being nice.

I hate very few things. Liberal economics is one of them. Can't stand it. It's wrong.

Reid is a loser and is ruining our country.

I was a republican until I move to Idaho. I could not, however, accept that the Post Office should be eliminated as a socialistic endeavor, that flouridation is a communist plot, that no land should be set aside as wilderness land, that the government ought not to regulate air or water quality, that the Legisature, not the people, ought to elect US Senators, that people should have the right to pack a gun in the temple, that abortion, even in the case of rape or incest, is murder, that gay people are evil and ought not have the same rights as heterosexuals, that a court of law is not valid if it has a flag with a yellow fringe around the edge, that the federal income tax is unconstitutional and people should just ignore it, that the government ought not regulate banks, drug companies, car dealers, or airlines, and that 35 kids in a first grade class room is just fine. So I became a democrat.

But I could not accept that the government should uphold abortions in all situations, that the government could never go too far in regulating business, industry or the environment, that with enough money anything can be fixed, and that the environment or genetics or culture excuses most if not all actions by an individual. So now I am an independent and here is what I want:

IPeople of integrity who will protect life, family, children and the environment in a meaningful way. The key word is meaningful and all I can say is that it takes time, education, wisdom and judgement to draw the right line on any given issue but it is someting we are obligated to do.

So way too long, but there I am.

Nothing wrong with being an independent, but your description of the republican party is not very accurate. You've identified the extremes of each party, but not the foundation of either.

In the end it really doesn't matter which party is in office because the people in this country are the problem. Greed, laziness, selfishness, entitlement, dishonesty. It's human nature. I've accepted that every person with whom I come in contact wants my money, whether directly through sales powered by deceptive advertising or indirectly through taxation and redistribution to entitlement programs.

Cougy, I think you've summed up my feelings perfectly. America's integrity/morals it was built on has corroded significantly. We are seeing the results of declining morality unfold before us. We are becoming a nation that only gives lipservice to God. Unfortunately, I feel that the same decline may be happening within the LDS church as well, especially when reading comments on DesNews from supposed members concerning the prophet and our leaders.

This is why I was so shocked with the reelection of Reid. I feel he has personified greed, entitlement and backroom deals. That Nevada choose to reelect such actions, in the face of some of the worst unemployment figures in the country astonished me.
