MWC begging BYU to come back?

It would interesting to be a fly on the wall in the office of BYU Athletic Director Tom Holmoe this week. With the announcement that Fresno State and Nevada will remain in the WAC until the 2012 season, Mountain West schools are now scrambling to to fill a void in their schedules for 2011. With just eight schools, every football program in the MWC will now play just seven conference games next year. That means each school has at least one game it must fill in order to get to 12 total games next year. …

I don't think it's that big of a deal to find 1 game, try finding 12. Now that BYU left for more than 8 times the amount of $$$ of course the mwc would want BYU back. The MWC wants BYU to be held down and screwed over, and eliminate real national exposure, take away BYUs much better quality of programming and technology (trumps the whole mtn) if they did beg BYU back it would be for those reasons, not any other.



So Tom can say, tempting...but hell to the NO!

Love to see TCU and AF at home next year - not only good teams, great strength of schedule, good gate attraction, and measuring sticks for our progress, but something to sell recruits.

AF yes, TCU no. Our schedule is already hard enough next year, we don't need them on it. Or BSU for that matter. Maybe play SDSU, Wyoming, NM, or UNLV at home. We need more patsies.

TCU will not play us, and I have no problem with that.



I would not mind seeing CSU come to Provo in 2011, or AFA, and maybe set up a home and home with UNM. We need some wins for 2011 and 2012. Not worried about SoS, go get the wins.

looking for a few filler games is much different than asking us to come back to the conference.



The article's point, was the irony of having to ask for BYU's help after excoriating them for making the Indie jump.

Sorry YBrit.... I think you missed the entire point of the article. It's saying the MWC teams need another team to play against since they'll only have seven conferences games next year and with practically no time to look for it, they may just be forced to come back and ask BYU to play them, that or not play against an FBS team. No where in the articles was it saying that the MWC wanted BYU to come back to the conference.

Do not schedule TCU. We need to win games next year.



Do not schedule Air Force. We get nothing out of this game. It takes up a lot of practice time to prepare for them and you don't see this style of offense again. However, I would be in favor of playing Air Force the same year that we play Georgia Tech. Throw in Navy the same year and you would actually have the benefit of playing three similar offenses that same year so the practice time spent on it would be more productive.



Never play SDSU again. Those whiners can worry about filling their empty stadium without our help.



Schedule Nevada to play us and then with a very short notice time inform them that we are dropping them from our schedule because we found an opponent with a better marching band.



Go ahead and schedule Colorado State or UNLV to play us in Provo next year. Even schedule New Mexico as a 13th game at home instead of scheduling any FCS teams. All are very winable games. That is the key in the first year of independence. Win as many games as you can.

Only the seasons that you are on a quest for perfection... ;)



I'm just hoping that Bronco isn't viewing independence as a good way to have the players see all parts of the country and give firesides.

Let NM, Wyo, CSU, and UNLV fight amongst themsleves for the opportunity to get a 1 and done in Provo in 2011. Our schedule, given that we will still be developing key young players at QB and tight end and elsewhere with out the OL all being back, is tough enough. Add only home games and do not bring in SDSU, AFA, BSU, or TCU unless we cannot get anyone else. If all else fails - maybe SDSU double maybe AFA.

Have you seen how bad BYU's home schedule is next season? It's worse than this season's. Go for a decent program and man up. I would love to get either TCU or AFA on Bronco's field and get some PAYBACK.
