New Rivalries

Now that BYU is independent they will be playing a teams they have never played before. I for one hope we create some new rivalries. What teams would you love to see turn into a competitive rivalry. Here are a few I would love to see.



Notre Dame. For all the obvious reasons

Boise State. Close. So. Idaho already has a little brother complex to the state of Utah. Could be fun.

Hawaii. Great vacation, history already and recruiting

Arizona or Arizona St. Close, history if you go way back and recruiting.

Rivalries take a long time to evolve, and I'd only really put Utah in the "rival" category at this point. I would love to see the BYU Notre Dame games turn into a rivalry on a national stage. I think Boise is another natural "every year" game that could get interesting if BYU could get a win.



Win/loss needs to be an even split for the rivalry to get real traction, which is why the Utah game has been so brutal recently. I don't see that letting up any once we part ways.



So, I'm for Utah, ND, and BSU. I'd like to see more football games with service academies (especially Army and Navy...we've played AF enough and I get tired of hearing all the smack at work from guys who only saw AF beat BYU when they were 12 years old).



The rest of the MWC can piss off. We can play them 2 for 1.

I hope we don't have any rivalries, I'm tired of having 12 enemies every year that consider us their rival. How about playing 12 mediocre-great teams that don't care about us and win 10-12 of those games? I'd like that.

I guess I was thinking terms of who I would consider a rival. Forget all the others with little-brother syndrome! :)

I think it will always be Utah, but Hawaii has a great shot at being #2. We have some tradition there and many games being lined up, so Hawaii could be the next rivalry type game. I know they consider BYU as a main rival as well.

I'd take Utah, add ND and Hawaii.

Those indamnable (sp) smurfs can go play on their blue turf. Arent we 0-2 the last two meetings anyway? And sorry, but I dont see us beating them (which prevents a "rivalry") if they keep up the recruiting and coaching they have had for the past 5-10 years. Their hatred for BYU would be as bad as wyoming, well, except that if they beat us 3 of 4 they will just laugh at us with their giggly little blue bellies. It gets us nothing to play them, unless that 1 of 4 wins happens in a strong year where we use whatever SOS they provide to bolster our standings--but wow that seems in a galaxy far, far away.
