KC is legit

He wont' shoot as well as Haws (who could for a true freshman?) But he'll do everything else better. He's simply a stud that can only help this team from several positions. I have to imagine the Laval coach told his guys not to give KC the baseline after these 2 pretty moves.

First time I saw him last night. Agreed. Though his game is not the same as Haws' he will bring that 3rd element/threat that will either take over the 2nd team or like Haws early in the season not attract much attention and be a force. Got to love Abouo, but it does make me wonder if he should, assuming KC would play some 3, trade minutes depending on match ups.

Going to interesting to see this play out. Going to be some great games.

We're gonna miss Tavernari. We don't really have a bench 3-point shooter this year, outside of Steven Rogers, and he's a pretty hot or cold guy (cold more so than JT).

You basing this off of 1 exhibition game?? Come on now - At least Rogers is tall enough to play the 4 if need be.

BYU has enough "finesse" players like Haws - who can shoot the ball and... well... uhhh... shoot the ball. That's about it.



Haws could shoot.



But he couldn't/wouldn't drive (always settled for fade away shots), rebound, box out, or play defense.



KC is more aggressive and the type of player that BYU is/was missing. Players like Haws, on the other hand, are a dime a dozen for BYU.

I totally agree, i will trade a shooter for a guy who can penetrate. With Collinsworth our offense won't be as one-dimensional.

While I'm happy to have KC to complement the team; Haws is not and will never be "dime a dozen". The kid is an incredibly efficient and saavy player that will go down with the greats when he finishes at the Y. His hoops IQ is outstanding and he did that all as a true freshman. in fact Haws was more efficient than Fredette as a frosh.



KC is going to be great, and so is Haws.



Haws is also the most prolific scorer in Utah prep history.. Collinsworth is not in that discussion.

NOt sure I agree about Haws--"dime a dozen"?. He shot the mid-range jumper very well and there arent many players in D1 or NBA that shoot the mid-range. Haws did slow down toward the end of the year, from tired legs or freshman slump or opponents caught on or competition got better.

But, yes, KC seems to know how and when to take it to the rim and when and how to find the open man. It will be very fun to see him continue to develop.

Do you think we might see him starting at the 3 at some point, mixed w Jax and Jimmer? That owuld be a very dynamic from 1-3. What to do about Charles at that point. Drop him to 4 and Chris to 5. Dont know the best place for KC. BUt like Craig said, he can play multiple positions.

What is his outside shooting like?

I doubt KC takes the starting job from Abouo, but he may take minutes. Abouo has never developed into a complete player, although he rightfully looks closer this season than he ever has before.



Abouo won't be taking Hartsock's starting job though, if injuries aren't a factor. Charles is very short to play the 4 at the Div. I level I believe.



And I doubt Chris steals Davies', though Brandon still needs to improve in a lot of areas as well. He's still young.

Probably right about Charles. And I have to confess, I believe he's paid his dues and deserves something, but maybe he would be better off the bench as an enforcer and some scoring and really thrive blowing up the other team's 2nd's.

Any chance KC is a Travis Hansen type player for us? IOW, he can take it to the hole and finish and post up and go strong to the basket. We need a mid-range player who can do this.

I don't think KC has the same bounce, but I think Travis would also say that KCs maturity and hoops IQ is off the charts for this stage. I'd have to look to see how much Travis contributed his frosh year. KC is also our best passer on the team and was the moment he walked onto campus.



Neither Collinsworth is an adept shooter and this is what people will bitch and moan about with these guys unless they improve. They can shoot but they're not great (RodneyStuckey-LebronJames-esqe there) The more respect they can get for their J, the more damage they can do off the dribble too.
