Jake in Five Degrees

I read somewhere that we are all related by the seventh degree. I have made an amazing discovery based upon observing the various discussions we have had: Everything can be linked back to Jake with five degrees! Some are easy:



1. Passing game stinks

2. Jake is not throwing well



Some are more challenging:



1. Faith is down in Texas

2. Fewer people attended BYU fireside before TCU game; hence, fewer people touched by spirit

3. Fewer people attended because there is not as much fan excitement for BYU against TCU

4. Not as much excitement due to BYU's rough season

5. BYU's rough season because passing game stinks

6. Passing game stinks because Jake is not throwing well



Some do take effort, I will concede:



1. Recession is not ending as soon as hoped

2. This is because consumers are not buying as much

3. Fewer consumers are buying football tickets

4. Fewer ticket purchasers mean less gas consumed, fewer parking lots filled, less money paid for advertisments, fewer people seeing those advertisements so economy is flatter than hoped for

5. Fewer ticket purchasers in part due to BYU's rough season

6. BYU's rough season because passing game stinks

7. Passing game stinks because Jake is not throwing well



So there you have it. Now I understand why almost every thread I see posted at some point comes back to Jake.

Jake is distantly related to Bush, Congress, and the federal government, which is why Washington wanted him so bad...what?





I live in Lubbock, and find it inexcusable to not go but I'm planning on going to the basketball game in Feb, and Longhorn game in 2011, I'm also hoping Tech will agree to the 2 year deal, they have to drop 2 games in 2013-2014 but haven't yet. They are more concerned about almost losing to Colorado at the moment.

Let me try one since this is a nearly dead thread and I still have some punch left.



1.The 'end of days' is coming sooner.

2.The anti-christ has finally emerged, and its not Obama, at least for many in Cougar nation.

3. Cougar nation is so resentful for its losses on the football field that they demand someone be the fall-guy.

4. No one else on the Cougar offense is taking responsibility for offensive failure--including coaches.

5. Some in Cougar nation have determined that Jake is THE MAIN problem.

6. Jake is passing like a false quarterback.

7. Therefore Jake is the cause of the end of days arriving sooner.



**FOr some of you who cannot figure out sarcasm (again, using exaggeration for effect, just like this whole thread) or which side of this fence I am on, I am suggesting that for some, Heaps is the very target of their blame and disdain and all the failures on offense AND its almost comical--and it will get worse next week. We will actually hear gnashing of teeth with the first or second slip or pick. People will be "done" and put it all on Jake. Pitiable short-sidedness.

Man I can't wait for the offense to excel under Heaps. That way we can credit everyone else for the offense's success and not give any glory to him!



As to your aside, are you thinking we're going to struggle again next week against UNLV? If so, then I certainly do hope at that time we start entertaining the idea of possibly making a change. If a QB can't figure things out after a half-season of starting, following a bye-week and against one of the worst teams in college football, then maybe he does need to sit.



Thankfully, I have more hope for next week than you appear to. And like it or not, Jake Heaps is the QB. That means two things: 1) He'll get more than his fair share of blame when things go horribly wrong and 2) he'll get more than his fair share of blame when things go spectacularly well. It's the nature of the position. Throw in being the best QB in the 2010 high school recruiting class and you wind up with what we have now. An underperforming team that is struggling in all facets of the game which leads to a highly disgruntled fan base.

I can accept your points. And i would ask how the defense made such a positive change? Was it scheme? partially, with some occasional mixed blitzes--finally. Was it steven thomas' or uale's poor play as the defensive qb? Well, they have taken some heat? Was it someone else? No. The defense had a number of problems. The majority of those problems have been solved. How?

The offense has a number of problems. The majority of those problems have not been solved. A "brick-by-brick" approach has been employed. Will that fix as much in one week that the defense fixed? and by UNLV? Not likely. BUt what is an acceptable performance by Heaps?

I thought his high school accolades meant nothing at this point as some have suggested? ;-)

The defense changed because the head coach got involved. There were clear coaching issues with the defense and Bronco stepped in. I've been clamoring for years that Bronco needs to put his stamp on the offense. Players respond to Bronco. It's a fact. The offense has lacked leadership and guidance for years and Bronco can provide that. I think Anae is gone and Bronco will be more involved with the offense next year.



I do think we'll see some improvement with the bye week. An acceptable performance from Jake, in my opinion, would be this: 55% completion, 1 TD, 200 yards.
