Ricks College Hurting Us

Remember the good old days when we had a farm team up north? Bringing in a load of experienced juco kids was huge and always made reloading easier. We had some solid players come from Ricks that contributed immediately. I know it ended a while back but I wonder if we're feeling some of the effects of that.

And why isn't Snow the new feeder school? Great football program. Our own head coach is a product.

Totally agreed with both of you. Ricks was our security blanket!

I talked to a veteran professor high up in the sports department here.



He claims that the reason the brethren gave for Ricks getting rid of sports programs was 100% false. He didn't necessarily SAY they lied - but he basically insinuated it as much as he could without saying it.



The supposed reason that he says they told him in person themselves had a lot to do with the fact that we needed to be in a conference, and no conference wanted to take us b/c of travel and b/c of the fact they were all sick of losing to us.



There was a lot more to it than that, but those are the basics of what I remember.

I don't think there is any question, losing Rick's hurt BYU big time. Snow can't replace Rick's because it is not a church school. Players that go to Snow aren't planning to come to BYU. Rick's prepared athletes for BYU in more than academics and those players weren't going anywhere besides BYU if they could help it. For all practical purposes Rick's was BYU JC.



I would like to also add the question, How has it affected BYU Idaho (Rick's)? Not to mention the athletes that would have gone there.

Most of the athletes that I knew at Snow College (or Slow Knowledge, as it has come to be known) wouldn't fit at BYU at all. Snow doesn't exactly have an honor code.



Also, Ricks isn't hurting us, they're just not helping us anymore.

I could see that, I don't feel like Snow feeds us all that much until I look at the roster and see several from there, I think we're getting talent from there, but we should keep recruiting JCs in weak positions and we'll catch up. Dequan Everett will play big for us.



The last QB we had that succeeded as a JC was Sark right? 95 was okay and 96 amazing. Of course 97 was bad. I'd like to revoke 2 WR/TE scholarships and give them to JC WRs who can play. Boy I can see 5 obvious mistakes coaches made on offense...excuses?
