Could this possibly be the answer for 2011?

An "outside the box" thread, and probably quite unnecessary, but...



Does BYU need a guy like one of these two next year?

These are both JC QBs that would jump at a chance to play for BYU next season...



Keep in mind, BYU already has a commit from HS QB Alex Kuresa for the 2011 class. Though he kind of looks like a Riley Nelson clone (quick outsider perspective, potentially 100% inaccurate).

Colter sounds like a name that would really fit in with Bronco's naming scheme.

Back to the QB's:

I think this guy would consider walking on to BYU.

Colby Earl from Highland. Doesn't even have an offer(according to Scout), but has BYU high interest. I don't know how good he is.

I'm actually shocked we gave Alex Kuresa a schollie(even though BYU runs through his blood). I'm kinda hoping he's talented in other areas other than QB. If I'm way off line... Let me know. Cause isn't the home boy 5'11"??? Kinda short for a QB.

We already have 4 QBs in the stable with 1 year in the system, 3 of which have been here for 2+ seasons already. IF the coaches can't find a decent QB out of the lot, what makes you think they can pick the right JC player to come in next fall, learn BYU's system and out play the 4 on roster currently?

Pun 1: BUt since Bronco doesnt "know anything" about offense, it wouldnt matter if the guy's name was Colter. Now if he played defense...

Pun 2: Bring in a JC guy. After all, having 6 TE's has worked really well. And our coaches are particularly adept at developing multiple guys at once.

Pun 3: Do you work for Anae?

Pun 4: Are you Yzzazz's little brother? Or did he put you up to this :-)

1. What if Jake Heaps just isn't a very good college QB?

2. What if Jake Heaps is still the best QB that BYU has?

3. What then?



Playing along with some of the theories floating around, not that I believe them...

My guess is that if they missed on assessing the players already on the team, then how are they to pick a JC player with talent for FBS level competition?



A note about Kuresa, as alluded to, he's a BYU legacy. The family is athletically gifted and others have size. He just might add a couple of inches in height and meat on his bones to allow him to compete better at the next level. Besides, he's been to the camps, Bronco puts more faith in evaluating players that go through his camp than most anything else.

So if the coaching staff missed on a QB, over-evaluating him they should never recruit any other qbs because they missed on the one?

No........ they shouldn't add a 4th qb to compete with 3 others for the same exact amount of eligibility.



If we're going to recruit a juco qb right now, let's not stop there; let's grab 3 juco tight ends... :roll:



For all practical purposes Riley Nielson was our juco qb and he can't play (and imho should be a safety or wildcat situational qb 4-5 downs a game)

no, this is ridiculous. we have three very talented qbs. the odds of all three of them sucking is zero. we are deep at qb and are not in need of a jc transfer. dumbest thing i have ever heard. you guys are all overreacting.

Thrasher and Hunko, listed on the right have great football names as does Colter.



Unless you can pick up the #1 Juco in the country - why bother.



At this point, though, Heaps is still not effective at scoring points as Nelson was in game 1, and Lark and Munns are unknowns.



That is why BYU should have given Lark or Munns a look at the end of the blow out losses - minimized risk of injury to Heaps, develop a back up, and take a look/see



Also, iirc, Heaps was not a consensus #1 pick and the 2010 class was viewed nationally as being very short on QB talent.

Hey, just thought it might not be a bad idea to have a guy 1- With college football starting experience, 2- That wasn't coached by Anae. Not someone like Nelson though, a QB. ;)
