This has to be asked...

Granted, I expect some to pander for the obvious reasons that some have pandered for the last 2 years... but honestly think about todays game and ask yourself these questions.



Did our return game look worse without OC?



Would our receiving game have been better with OC?



I gotta say it was a wash so far... I don't think we do any better with him today.

What this says is that we're very lucky to have a young man like Hoffman on the team.

NOt a wash, IMO. What this says, is that there was no difference in stats or outcome without OC.

BUt we can conjecture that his negative influence and "give me the ball" attitude was not present.

Therefore, a net gain without OC, not that I take any pleasure in saying so.

J.D. looked decent too. Throw in Philips and/or Timo-Hine and I think our return game is better.



Add a more experienced Hoffman, Tight Ends, and Apo and our receiving game is better, even if Mckay never gets it back.



We'll be improved in the near future and the long future... the question is will we be improved enough to knock on the door at Texas, and the rest of our brutal 2011 schedule.



I dont' think OC has been a difference maker at all this year and there's a good chance that he has helped hold this team back by displaying a lack of respect for other teammates and coaches.



I think it's a shame that any kid would sabotage their chance at a BYU diploma, but if we're talking about what happens on the football field, I dont' think we missed him today. (That doesn't mean we aren't missing play makers)

I liked Hoffman on returns and I love Falslev's energy---he looks fast too. Hoffman's long return was sweet and he got out of several tackles on his returns.

Why lucky? He was on the team last year. And if he or O'Neill weren't here this season, we would have had a schollie open for the WR who came home from a mission early.

Murphy? He's not going to be a receiver (TE or linebacker) and he is not talented enough to contribute right off his mission.



If you think Chambers is slow, then you haven't seen Jake Murphy run.

I was thinking the same thing during the game.



The ONLY thing that I noticed missing was his down field blocking. We had a couple outs/screens with very poor blocking by the receivers.



But for the most part - I thought all of the offensive units Chambers is on looked better without him today.

Chambers did one thing better than any receiver on the team...block. Even the haters have to admit, the guy was one heck of a downfield blocker!

This is true and with the amount of running we do, this did have an effect I think. As far as his effect on the receiving corps and return game goes, I don't think he helped one bit. Like I pointed out in a previous post, he had two TOTAL touchdowns in his career and zero 100 yard receiving games. Our current kick returners are just as good if not better.

I don't hate OC at all. I just never saw any productivity that couldn't have been provided by another player that might have been a better teammate too.



I think we saw that today with Hoffman and J.D. that our return game hasn't missed a beat.



And at the end of the day, run blocking from the receiver position is well down the list of things we need from the receiver position.



1. catch the ball

2. run the right patterns

4. get space between the defender and receiver

3. hold onto the ball after catch

4. avoid penalty

5. yards after catch

6. practice hard, show up for practice and keep your mouth shut

7. be a good teammate

8. stay out of trouble outside of football activity

9. run blocking...

Agreed. And I wasn't targeting you or anyone specific with my comment. :o) I was just trying to make the point that he was a great run blocker.
