Thoughts on the game and team

The good: Anae called a good game, the OLine played with some nastiness and Luke Ashworth had an excellent game. Heaps TD pass was an excellent excellent pass

The bad: killer turnovers and penalties made this game much closer than it really should have been. The turnovers were bad. I could not believe that no one could run down the linebacker on the interception.

Reactions: we are going to lose at CSU and not go bowling. This team is a work in progress.

It made me laugh when nobody could chase down the 240 lb linebacker. I'm afraid you may be right about CSU on the road.

I don't know why you think Anae called a good game. Yes, we ran from the I and the game was called decent as a whole, but every critical situation play call was an epic FAIL. Running on 3rd and 12, 3rd and 8, 3rd and 7? Why don't you just prove to your QB and receivers that you have no faith in the or support of them.

This game was two steps forward one step back. Turnovers, the defense giving it their all early and running out of gas by the 4th Q, and Anae's rhythm disruptive play calling make us vulnerable on the road.

Wasn't that LB their return guy who got hurt later in the game? I lost track.

I thought he mixed things up well, involved all parts of the offense and called plays that gave our players the best chance at succeeding.

And Ashworth finally found his hands. Progress was made but there is still a lot of work to do.

When you have a QB that has failed in every critical throw he has tried all year, you don't put the ball in his hands in those situations. You do exactly what Anae did and keep it safe and let your defense that has been dominating take care of business. On one of those runs they centered the ball and kicked a FG which, once again, is good sound coaching when your defense is dominating. What would it do to Heaps, already shaky, confidence if he throws another pick 6 in those situations? Anae's play calling was just fine in this game, IMO I never saw a play call where I just shook my head wondering what the hell he was thinking.

BYU won another close game. BYU is now 14-5 in games decided by 7 points or less under Bronco. We don't lose close games. The last close game we lost was to BC in 2OT in 2006. Every other close game we've won.



This is a good sign/thing for Heaps. He and the team are learning how to win. With 2 career wins, Heaps is quickly gaining on Jake Locker for career wins as a starting QB.



Locker isn't a winner. He never learned how to win. Eventually have to start winning game.
