and Riley Nelson has still thrown for more TD's than Jake despite not playing a down in weeks.

let's hope that changes tomorrow.

I don't know about you guys but I was expecting an all-star, perhaps even Heisman performance from Jake this year. He's had the stars align perfectly for him this season, and there is absolutely no excuse for him to have not been putting up great numbers. What a let down.

Seriously? Did you forget the TIC or sarcasm smiley or something? I was going to comment but I just can't bring myself to believe your comment was not sarcasm.

Way to shift the focus away from Heaps' absolute failure to generate any meaningful offense this year with a sarcastic reply stating an expectation none of his current critics had. I for one had hopes that he would sit a year out, but if he did end up starting, I had hoped that he would produce at least 10-15 TDs for us this year through the air and had a PER over 120. After all, he was the #1 HS recruit and seemingly ready for MWC play. It's not like he's jumping right into the Big Ten or SEC.

Now go ahead and console me that we will start seeing dividends in his Jr and Sr season after he takes us to a 3-9 record this year and 6-6 next year. At this pace, he can't be much better than what Max Hall produced for us for 3 consecutive years.

Can't wait for the 9-4 year in 2012 and 13-0 national championship campaign in 2013 with loyal Sr. backups Lark and Munns hoisting him up on their shoulders in victory against the PAC-12 Yewts in the Rose Bowl.

How's that for sarcasm?

Hate to say it, but right now Heaps is looking a lot more like Matt Berry (actually Matt was a lot better at this stage of his career), Drew Miller, Ben Olson, and Sean Covey than Detmer, Young, or McMahon.

I really hope he proves me and other critics wrong, but I just can't stomach 1 TD in 7 games, even from a 5th grader who we lined up at QB to start for a D1 team. Much less the #1 QB recruit in the nation.

I can't help but think that the drops are now affecting Jake's throws. He must think the throw has to be on a soft silver platter for the WR to catch. Thinking too much is messing him up.

QB2: 2.0

Its coming to theaters MArch 2011.

Mark my words.

(Somebody go ahead and start a thread, since mine seem to suck or I have lost credibility :-)

I have to assume this is TIC. Otherwise, you simply haven't been paying attention to what has been going on all season long. To say there is absolutely no excuse is ridiculous.

This had to have been TIC.

No that's just Italics being his sarcastic self. Like others mentioned he's once again trying to absolve Heaps of any responsibility this season with his wit and humor. Which I'm fine with.

I'm still just wondering why everyone was ready to lynch Nelson. He was playing for the same team/receivers/line that Heaps has right now? What's the difference? Other than Nelson was throwing a few more TD passes while he was QBing. I get the feeling that what Nelson was doing just wasn't "pretty" enough for most BYU fans out there.

For those fans who are honest enough to look back and realize, they must be kicking themselves for getting on him. Sadly there are too many who are unable to admit they were wrong.

Why anyone would still be in the Nelson camp is beyond me. He has proved that he does not have the tools or durability to be the guy. He had one good game against an awful UW and benefitted from the element of surprise. After that he really sucked. Granted, Jake hasn't really had one good game.

Just so you know I'm not in the Nelson camp. Whoever takes the field on Sat is the player I'm hoping throws for 500 and 7 tds.

Sure Nelson benefited in the UW game "surprise". I'll counter that with; image if that was a 100% healthy Riley Nelson. So far bang up Nelson is equal or greater than healthy Heaps.

Why anyone denies the irony of the Nelson bashing at this point is beyond me. It just bothers me that so many fans were down on Nelson but don't want a single ill word spoken about Heaps.

I don't think the point of the thread is about anyone being in "the Nelson camp." Regardless of receiver play, which we all know has been poor, Heaps just hasn't played as well as anyone thought he would.

yay. Heaps is now TIED for throwing the most TDs with a qb who hasn't played in weeks.

yay.

I know you were trying to be TIC, but your summer of "There Can Only Be One" and " "Jake Heaps. The Chosen One" posts belie how humorously this really reflects some of the expectations. Of course, in the summer, if one were to predict that Heaps might have a poor year and the he should be redshirted, you were accused of a paternal relationship with one of the other QBs.

This is a fun thread to revisit:

Some people thought 10 wins this year was aiming too low and were suggesting a MWC Championship and laughing off posters saying 8 wins would be a good year.

Ive seen plenty Jake-voters and even lovers speak ill of him since. Methinks you and several others would not be satisfied unless ALL who are guilty confess their wrong-doing and admit you were right all along--and what exactly that would prove is far less than beyond me.

I have spoken "ill" since, having casted my vote after spring ball (and after we saw the 1 and 1/2 dimensionality and predictibility of Nelson and figured long-term our chances were alot better to break in the next QB and take a tough year). Tell me our record would be different if Nelson had all the snaps to this point. I think AFA pretty much sowed up that argument.

A health Nelson would have had a better chance at USU and VS Nevada. But who knows and he was injured so it is moot. But blind visions of Heaps glory and impatience to wait until the right time have resulted in unnecessary disrespect to and vilification of any other contender for QB.

Same thing, to a lesser extent has happened to anyone contending with Van Noy, Apo, Juice, Stout, Phillips, or others of the miracle recruiting class.

Just let it sort itself out on the field and respect every athlete who has sacrificed to be a part of this team.

Van Noy has quickly earned his spot on the field and Juice has earned significant reps, and the rest are freshmen or injured.

It is nice to see newbies like Hoffman and Falslev earn PT.

Be patient and respectful as the kids all grow up.

Anyone who still has faith that Nelson would have won any games for us after afa needs to go back and rewatch the second half of that air force game. Something happened there that undid all the coaches had been training. There is zero chance that Nelson would have won any games after that. How difficult would it have been to stop the tuck and run? He completely lost his composure and became a one trick pony. I just didn't see him becoming a QB that could honestly pose a threat through the air after that game. I'll watch a full season of what Heaps is giving us than another half like that.

Ironic that you would reach such a conclusion in one bad half of one bad game during that timeframe where Nelson was playing injured with an OL that was providing horrible protection, a running game that was not working as well, and receivers every bit as dropsy as now and bs a good defense.

But Heaps still can't throw even with our defense giving him good field position, a line that is both run and pass blocking very well, and easier competition, and after having several games under his belt.

Nelson got less reps in Spring and Fall and especially less throwing reps so don't use that excuse. Nelson is a better leader as well.

So yes, I could see the QB that never got a full game, with an even worse supporting cast, injured, but scored as many TDs in 6 QTRS as Heaps has in 26 QTRS while also rushing effectively winning games Heaps lost.
