I think it has been the potential that he seemed to have. You watch him coming out of the tunnel in the pre-game practices and he sure looks like someone that was made to play football. He had the mouth to make you think so too, but somehow his apparent athletic talent never developed as a wide receiver. He seemed to have a determined attitude, but when you are a receiver, and you don't have the kind of soft hands like Pitta, George, Collie, et al had, then you can become a better than average player, but not a great one--by our measures. You want the non-LDS athletes to do very well at BYU so that other will come. Not because they are better than LDS ones, but because we do pretty well with the LDS pool for natural reasons, but to be successful, we need others that "fit" in the BYU environment and this was one of those that we thought would take us farther than he did. I think we're still going off of the expectation of what OC would possibly bring to BYU. He definitely made his presence known.

The hype started with his first kick off return as a freshman where he ran over some people and got out to around the 40 yard line. He then held a muscle flexing pose and Bronco lit into him. It's pretty much been down hill ever since.



The number 1 moment would be if Bronco agrees to let him return next season but only as a safety.

I like your comments, but what part you did not identify was that McKay never went out in public and said he was going to take a KO or PR for a TD. He is a lot less vocal. Being vocal is okay, but it means your output both verbally and physically needs to match and if it doesn't, then out comes the boo birds. That's why it's often better to just shut your mouth and let your actions define you more. AC was vocal too, but he had more talent and I think he had earned more the confidence of the QB's he worked with and some of OC's diminished output this season has been some of the same issue that has plagued the other WR's, but also that I don't believe he had the same type of relationship that Max had with AC, DP or AG and that seems to matter.



I like OC and I wish he'd still be around and I am disappointed that this situation didn't work out as most had hoped.

The buzz started during the recruiting process. So moment #1 is the verbal/LOI/arrival



#2 special teams vs Utah 2009



#3 that 1st KR and Bronco telling him "find a team mate to celebrate with"



#4 first TD



#5 chipping away at the KR record. He did that awefully quietly, but proved the point that persistence and consistence matter.

He's black, he "looks" like an athlete, he talks a lot of smack--which Provo doesn't get a lot of, he made guarantees, he showboats drawing pass interference calls, and he makes spectacular catches out of bounds.



Isn't that enough for you?

Chambers at safety is intriguing. He seems to have the mindset for it. We won't see it though. Doubt he ever comes back.
