China

You have been invited to dinner at your neighbors house, and in anticipation of your arrival your neighbors bring out their best and fine china to serve you. You are so impressed with this that you decide hey I really liked the royal treatment I must do this in my own home so I too can impress my invited guests. You go and search hi and low just for that perfect china that you feel suits you the best. Obviously due to the high quality you are looking for cost is not an option but you know that there is no refund or return due to the rairity of what you are looking for.



You are so excited that you have finally found what you are looking for and you bring it home. But now you have noticed that the colors or the pattern in that china either does not match your wall color or the wall paper in your home. So now you decide that you will start rubbing your china in hopes that something of that china will change to fit your decor, but you have caused it to chip and start to crack, now remember there is no refund or return so what can or will you do?



Might have been easier to just change some of your decor to work with that china rather to damage a very expensive investment. You can always decide to throw that piece out or keep that piece in your china cabinet so you will always remember that china is a very expensive delicate thing to have. Somehow your neighbors have been able to take good care of theirs why not sit with them to find out how and what did they do to manage to keep their china collection so pristine?



If you wanted to be just like your neighbor it would help to sit with them to find out all you needed to know to be just as careful as they are with the care of their china so as to keep your china cabinet full and impress the next neighbor that would be invited to your home. China is very delicate and expensive!

But if the "china" is allegedly head-butting the other dinner plates, and then clears out the silverware's locker instead of his own to give to the coach, then what?

Linette, I've enjoyed your presence as a member of our Cougar Family. I've heard many good things about your son from those here who've interacted with him personally off the field. That is a testament to good parenting. Thank you for sharing him with us. Thank you for being part of our family too.



Please remember to stop by and give us an update on the family. Best wishes to you and the rest of the Chambers family and especially to O'Neil as he begins a new journey. He provided some fond memories on the field.

My one wish is that your china can be mended; it is valuable and worth the attention it takes to complete the mending; whether it be here or elsewhere, it has value, and I’m hoping for the best. If we at this board don't hear from you much anymore, I understand. Please know that I'm a fan, and hope that all goes well with you and your son in the future.



BTW You are a great lady. And your greatness is evidenced by your willingness to come onto this board and post, especially when it would have been perfectly understandable for you to not look back even once.

I have been taught, and now believe, that the greatest teacher who ever lived used parables as a very powerful way to instruct. Each who heard the parable, and had ears to hear, learned exactly what he/she needed to learn. And everyone learned a unique lesson.



Linette, your analogy is a masterpiece; many different messages for different people. The neighbor, the owner of the 'China,' and even the 'China' itself can take something from the story.

Not only is the analogy cryptic, but it also can be interpreted many ways.



In my view, the fine china is a scholarship for free schooling, room, and board to a prestigious university, and you can store it and show it off all you want once you get the diploma. Til then it's not really yours to keep.



The surroundings you protect the china in are all up to the individual and the idea is to find a place where you can make it match and keep it safe, even if you have to move from a place in life that doesn't match, because a full ride scholarship to a prestiigious academic insitution is too good to pass up.



Inexplicably, some people choose to treat their china like disposable paper plates.... while others cherish and protect theirs so they can appreciate and benefit from it for the rest of their lives.



There are hundreds of thousands, if not millions of kids that wish they could ever get their hands on a chance at this china, it's a shame when someone treats it like tupperware.



The greatest loss here is not BYUs... they're the China maker and they'll continue to make more for others that hopefully appreciate it and take care of it. The greatest loss is to the person who had a shot at the fine china (prestigious diploma) and took it for granted.

I will always remember the great, even courageous kick off and punt returns from the Utah game last year. Best wishes.

As you can see, you can't make all the people happy all the time - especially when BYU is losing - even if you are the closest thing to Mother Theresa I have ever seen on a BYU Chat Board. But you made most of us happy most of the time and you are a class act.



I don't know what or why things went wrong, but assure you that most of the time, BYU is a great place and I sincerley hope that things work out for your son.



I take away from this that even in the most difficult of times, a mom or a dad should look at their child and see and appreciate the treasure they are.



I never say never and would be inspired to see O'Neil emerge better and stronger and quietly perform as a senior - preferably at BYU but anywhere that suits him well.



You are a fine piece of China in my eyes and an example to all of us.

It's a shame that Chambers is leaving behind the greatest football playing opportunity he'll ever have, and a shame that he can't have as much sense as his mother with these things. I'll leave it at that.
