Gunk alluded to cleaning the inner vessel - nice analogy.

Given the recent dismissal of Jill and Chambers - are there any other glaring conditions that will cause Bronco to pull the trigger on before year's end?

Additionally, what message is this sending to future recruits that are watching the scene unfold?

Well you already know what I'M gonna say

There's fifty guys on here saying we need to get rid of Anae. I am in that boat as well. That one is obvious. But I'm also the guy in the boat feeling very lonely with runbyu1 and maybe gunk and mizzoucoug who think we need a speed coach. Maybe we can keep Omer for buffing and fattening up our offensive line, but this little tugboat thinks we need a speed coach for sure. I'm tired of getting excited about a fast recruit only to see him get caught from behind by a D-lineman.

I know teams are limited in numbers of coaches, but does that include strength and speed coaches? Could we have both a speed coach and a strength coach?

I'm 100% on board with you guys on the speed coach (though it should be amended to speed and agility coach). Running speed and agility is like any other skill--you might some natural ability, but having an expert train and refine that ability can yield big results. A player might not be able to reach a higher top end speed, but a little training can increase his ability to accelerate and cut--which are more important in football anyway. I know professional hockey players who continue to spend their offseasons receiving skating technique training to increase their to help them with skating speed and strength. Same would apply to college athletes.

As to the OP, another concern is how Bronco or the team treats highly-regarded Heaps. If something happens that could give the perception that Heaps isn't getting a fair shot, then that could have a chilling effect on BYU's ability to recruit similar athletes in the future. So far, so good I think, but we'll see after the end of the season.

I don't know. I know Omer had an assistant. Don't know if he was on the payroll or not but...I kind of assume he wouldn't spend that much time unless he was. I've seen him on the sidelines during games. Justin something. Maybe a speed coach could be like an assistant.

The thing with that though is the probable clash of philosophies. Seems problematic.

Coach Omer does have an assistant. Not sure what his specialty area is, though. But it is clear we need a training coach on staff that focuses less on power and explosiveness tied to power, and more on speed and agility with certain skill positions, like RB, WR, CB, Safety, etc. Those guys need to run fast, react fast, and bulk might slow them down some.

Perhaps one thread dedicated to all the coaching changes needed: Omer, Higgins, Anae, etc. I think people are starting to see that our coaching staff is a hindrance not a help. We are 2nd tier to BSU, TCU, and UofU as it stands because they get way more out of their players than we do.

And this, my fiends, is the answer to why we get better recruits year in and out, and yet seam inferior to other teams in comparison to speed and agility. It comes down to how they are being trained, and used.

We recruit "undersized" and bulk them up (Te's to lineman, etc.)

Other teams (Utes, TCU) recruit pure speed and athletic ability, and then teach them to play different positions, while keeping them as fast, or making them faster during their tenure.

From Omer's bio on byucougars.com it says he oversees the strength and conditioning of all the athletes at BYU. If that is the case, why can't a track coach - certainly they must have one with some knowledge of how to increase speed as BYU has had several Olympic sprinting medalists (like Frankie Fredericks) - come over and work with the football team? You don't have to hire a new coach, just assign them some extra duties during the football offseason.

Which I'm sure they would be fine with, given proper compensation. I mean how much does a track coach get at BYU, anyways?

But to do that, you would need a change in scheme/philosophy. And to date, Bronco can produce that himself as a coach, but he has been slow to have his OC and DC produce that on a consistent or sustained manner. So, same problem will remain w Omer. He is what he is and does what he does--just like Anae. And unfortunately, that means it will take more failure for Bronco to produce a change that would plunge deeper into the "less apparent" or "less important" facets of his program--less important to "execution" and "effort'. Sorry to sound so bleak.

No, you're just being realistic. For all we know, Bronco thinks the way many people do, that you can't coach speed. If that's the case then he may see no reason to change anything in that area. I hope that's not the case, but I've never heard Bronco complain about it, so...
