Letter to O'Neill & Linnette

O'Neill,



I am a proud cougar alum. BYU helped make me what I am today, so I take great interest & pride in Cougar sports and Cougar athletes. I was very pleased when you signed with BYU. I don't get to see very many games as I don't live in Utah, but I did see the Utah game last year. Your performance in that game was fun to watch.



I know this has been a tough season for both fans and football players. I have observed bad seasons before, but I am always optimistic--the winning years are all the sweeter. In my years as a Cougar fan, a few players have been suspended. Some of them have returned to play again as BYU Cougars. I would love to see you wearing a cougar uniform next year.

I have enjoyed your posts here on cougarcorner. Hearing from a parent gives added perspective. I am a BYU alum, and I have 4 children who have graduated from BYU--my youngest is a Junior at BYU now. Two other children are at BYU-IDaho, and they often go to Provo to see the games. BYU is a very special place for our family.



O'Neill is an over all good kid. As mentioned above, I would live to see him come back as a cougar next year.



You have been a great fan of BYU these last few years, and I have enjoyed your enthusiasm.

This is a damn shame if Oneill transfers, he's had his good and bad moments, he needs to grow up quite a bit still, and I would hate to seem him finish his college career in anything other than cougar blue. He hasn't lived up to his potential so far but he has a much better chance of turning that around at BYU than starting from scratch somewhere else. That said, fresh starts have done good things for kids like OC in the past. Either way, all the best in the future.

Unfortunately for O'neal, his chances at BYU have run out. Bronco said that he will not be back. I will be sorry to not be able to hear from Ms. Chambers anymore, she is a very inspirational person. I hope that O'neal is able to learn from this and grow up a bit.

If OC chose not to transfer he could be back next year. I certainly wish that was the way it would happen. If the rumblings on this board asking for a new Offensive coordinator are accurate, I wonder if that would help?



Wouldn't you prefer to come back with a new Offensive Coordinator?



We'd sure like to see you make good on all your promises.

I too want Chambers back next year. I think he has a little growing up to do, but who didn't at 20? Focus the next year on humbling yourself and improving as a player and teammate and comeback next year and show us what we have all been hoping for.

Sounds like OC has requested and was granted his realease from the program. So the game v. TCU will be his last in Cougar Blue.



Best of luck to him wherever he lands. Has 1 year to make good on the field. Hope he finishes his degree wherever he ends up.

I will miss Ms. Chambers. She is a very classy person. I hope OC can yet succeed with his dreams and life

With the way he is blaming the coaches, I don't think he is coming back. Or will find a spot if he does want to come back.



It is sad, I would like to see him finish what he started.

Maybe a face to face with Bronco, Linnette, and O'niel would do the trick. I would do anything for Linnette and I think she could calm the waters and work out the way to get O'niel back in a BYU uni. There has to be a way to salvage this.

We were promised a lot by Chambers, and had very little of it ever delivered. And this is coming from a guy who usually stuck up for and defended Chambers.



I liked his fire and passion... but once that fire and passion turned into blaming everyone around him for our team's failure - while ignoring his own lack of contribution to the team - I found it hard to continue defending him.



People can say, "oh, well he's still just a young guy." The fact of the matter is, I think he's a bit too OLD to be acting the way he has been.
