Monson on Anae

I went against my vow to never read Monson Articles and found that this one is a good one. It is not full of his incoherent negative rambling, it actually has quotes and some facts. If this is true, Anae needs to be removed from his position and Lance Reynolds and Brandon Doman given the keys to the offense. It has been horribly aparent that the offense has no fire or passion and if this article is true it is because they have no faith in their Ocoordinator to put together a successful plan to win games. When you lose your team, you need to be replaced and it looks like Anae has lost this team.

May be a great article, but I will never go against my policy of never reading a Monson article.

I think you could take this article and remove Monson's name and put in Dick Harmon's and you would not know the difference. I was actually shocked, I wasn't going to read it but I thought I would just browse the first paragraph and then to my shock it was actually a pretty good article. I am not trying to talk you into reading it but it was a good article. I usually don't jump on the "fire coaches" bandwagons, but if this article is true, then Anae will have to be removed for BYU's offense to improve. He has lost the team....coaches and players.

I appreciate the recap, and agree in principal with the article as you describe it, there's just something so slimey about Monson.

Excellent article. We need more like it. Anae needs to go and he might as well go now. I dont see much of anythign to gain by keeping him.

I finally broke down and read it as I very rarely read any of his rants. I'm not saying that he has no talent, but I don't agree that taking a negative position on almost every BYU issue is going to create an article that I personally would want to read. He usually doesn't open my eyes about anything specifically and this article didn't as well. I'm a bit surprised that some of you thought this a "good one".

On the issue of Anae, I've never felt that he was my answer to the OC, but I thought that Gary Crowton's playbook was maybe too superfluous also. It has worked for Oregon and LSU to a certain degree and I'm not certain who I want in there, but my opinion has been that Anae's stubborness, for some reason, limits his effectiveness.

Say what you will about Monson, but I would say his assessment and analysis of BYU has been spot on this year. Good article in a series of articles lambasting the leadership of our team and the offense. The three things Monson has been most vocal about:

#1 - The folly of the two quarterback system. (Anyone care to argue this?)

#2 - The leadership failure, indecision, and seemingly incoherent nature of the coaching staff - particularly Mendenhall before the Hill firing (Again, any takers to argue this point?)

#3 - The need for Anae to be removed

Call me crazy, but he has clearly articulated what I would consider to be my three biggest disappointments of this season. There is no way we should be a 2-5 season, even with a freshman quarterback.

13 yards.

Let's keep the pressure up on this point because Anae needs to go in the worst way. I totally agree with giving the play calling responsibility to someone else ....... in essense making him a lame duck coordinator...... He would walk possibily saving us money.

What's interesting is how frustrated Doman is with him after the TCU game.

It was a good article because he got opinions of current players and outlined the reason why we ran a 2 qb system to start the year. He mentioned the players told him that they practice certain plays all week long specifically to an opponent and then the scrap those plays for different ones during the game. This is important because it teaches players to discount your game plan because you throw it out the window on gameday so quickly. I didn't think it was very negative because he backed up what he was saying with research. I don't usually read monson's articles because he spouts negative opinions that are rarely based in reality or fact. The bottom line is, if this article is true, Anae has lost his team and that is a sure sign that he needs replaced.

Doman's frustrations have been building for some time--not just after te TCU game. Doman wanted jake to start game 1 and be named the guy, and as we now learned, it was Coach Anae that wanted Riley so went with the 2 QB system. Had Jake been named the guy in Fall Camp and given all starters reps, I think we have at least 1 more win, maybe 2.

Only thing that surprises me is why Bronco has not acted on coach Anae yet, if Doman is there to take his place? Either Bronco does not want to give teh OC job to Doman or Reynolds, or he really does give Anae his full backing.

I don't understand it either. I almost wonder if Monson is right and since Anae isn't bronco's hire, he is hesitant to fire him. Frankly, the part of the article where he talks about creating game plans and practicing the game plan all week and then not running the same plays that were practiced in the game (going away from teh game plan) is where I start wondering why he is still here. There is a difference between making adjustments and not running the plays that you practiced all week. That is crowtonesque where he would call a play that they hadn't practiced since spring ball and it would be confusing to the offense. This type of thing is going to rear its ugly head worse on an inexperienced team more then it would if Max hall is running the offense.

Bronco hasn't acted on Anae because he isn't comfortable running the offense and certainly couldn't do both. He pretty much admitted as such without specifically saying it:

"...there's no way I can be more involved. I inserted myself defensively because it was an area of expertise, and a way I thought I could maybe capture and inspire the football team collectively. I am not an offensive mind; I don't think I have a great handle on offensive football or schematics, in terms of being able to insert myself there. I think it would only be detrimental to the team."

Interesting that the first time Gordon Monson says what BYU fans want to hear, he gains sudden credibility regarding the quality of his facts and research and unbiased nature.

BTW - I never have like Monson, have always thought Anae was stubborn re running what he wants to prove he can do vs taking what the D gives him.

Bronco has stated that Bronco lacks expertise on the offense and has confidence in Anae. Bronco needs to seek objective input so he can develop an informed opinion.

Bronco knows a number of people that could give pluses and minuses.

But if Anae truly has lost credibility with other coaches and the players, Bronco will understand that.

But the stmts that Donan is highly frustrated with Anae are a stretch if based on the recent quote that BYU couldn't follow the game plan. He may have just meant that TCU took them out of it.

I don't know. But has anyone actually got a source where Doman is really indicating frustration with Anae.

BTW, if you read Bronco's quotes today, it is a real stretch to conclude that more practice snaps for Heaps and game 1 starter role for Heaps would have somehow prepared him to win more games.

He, like almost every other true Freshman QB in history, is just not ready yet.

It is no stretch. That Doman is frustrated w/ anae is an understatement. Anae will be gone by or at the end of the year.

I don't think I am going to become a fan of Monson's articles any time soon. Just because he stepped out of his normal persona and wrote a decent article doesn't make him a good journalist.

Monson didn't didn't have to be a great journalist to get this right. Many posters on this board feel the same way.

To his credit Monson did; however, actually speak with some BYU players.
