Last week I was given four tickets to sit in one of the loge boxes for the SDSU game. I'd never been there before so I asked you, my fellow Cougar Corner family members, for some insight into what I was to expect. I thought I'd give a report - in case some of you want to know.
There are three levels in the glassed-in press box area. I didn't make it up to the 3rd. Didn't try. The 1st floor has nine loge boxes on the south and nine on the north, separated by a larger area where all the important people go. I walked down a rather narrow hallway to my box. Inside are two rows of seats with six chairs on each row. The chairs in each row belly up to a counter. The bottom row is right up against the glass. In addition to the climate controlled seating, there is a plasma TV (about 26") in the corner, and a speaker in the room that can be set to either listed to the field announcer or Greg Wrubell. It was great to be able to watch the Mtn (sound turned down), listen to Wrubell, and see the game at the same time.
We did have the opportunity to say "Hi" to L. Tom Perry. Also, as we waited for the elevator to take us down after the game, we were about four feet away from Pres. Uchtdorf and got to listen to his conversations. He was surrounded by his four security guards. And there were seemingly countless brethren with the first name of "Elder" written on their name tags. I didn't recognize their names but can pretty well safely assume they were of the Seventy.
The 2nd floor had loge boxes also. The center area had food services where we went at halftime for a hot dog. There were lots of other things to eat there also. If you wanted to, you could order an ice cream sundae of a banana split (for $3.50 - $4.50) and have it delivered during the 3rd Qtr.
The event staff is all dressed in tuxedos and dresses. They don't get to see the game at all. There were no dress standards for the rest of us (other than the normal).
I never felt like I was separated from the game. The sounds came thru very well. It was a bit awkward singing the Cougar fight song in a small room of twelve people - and only five us us singing it. Just didn't have the impact.
One final note. The anonnimity we share here at Cougar Corner allows us to speak our minds freely. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to get to know some of you guys personally. We are just like one big happy family stretched across this grand nation. I confess to having two extra tickets to the game and to giving them to Hawkwing and his wife. This was great. I enjoyed being able to meet and spend four hours with a fellow "Corner" member and to get to know him a bit more. Mrs. Hawk is just awesome also. Personally, I think it would be awesome to arrange a Cougar Corner get-together sometime. We all have a lot in common and it would just be a fun thing to do. Hawkwing does a lot for this site so I want to say "Thank you" to him for all his efforts in making this the best place to come for insights, updates, and camaraderie.
