-This is Bronco's signature win in my opinion. Beating a top 15 team on the road.
-Play of the game was David Nixon's big hit on the QB that caused a fumble.
-Was that a freshman McKay Jacobsen that returned the opening kickoff?
-Top 15 team and TCU still can't fill their dinky stadium. Wonder what it will be like Saturday.

LawboyThe most amazing thing about this is that I saw WR and TEs actually open. It was awesome to see. Hope it happens again soon. We also attacked the deep middle v. them on passes. Loved that. But mainly, would love to see our D hold them to 17 pts this week.

IowaCougarLove it! I actually drove down and attended this game. It was amazing that from the beginning, the BYU crowd made more noise than the TCU fans did. Every time BYU had a 3rd down, the TCU fans would yell, "AND IT'S..3RD DOWN". The response after BYU got the first down (which was most of the time) was the BYU fans yelling "AND IT'S..1ST DOWN". After a while, the TCU fans ignored the 3rd down chant and sat on their hands.

frdbtrthe 2006 team completely out physical'd TCU. In 2008 and 2009, we got out physical'd by them. That will be the only way BYU has a PRAYER in this game is if we come out and smack them in the mouth. I expect BYU to play hard and try to be physical on them but I don't think this team is ready to knock off a top 5 team on the road yet. Those highlights show how hard BYU hit them on defense. That hit by Nixon on the QB for the fumble is AWESOME!

bballI think BYU is perfectly positioned to upset TCU (maybe we will, maybe we won't). We in a down year, haven't looked very good, supposed to be a passing team, then we come out and steamroll SDSU on the ground. If this team makes as much progress this week as they made last week, and if players continue to improve, on both sides of the ball, we could shock TCU. Can you imagine holding the ball for 47 minutes against TCU? That would guarantee a win, in my book. If our Oline can get even more physical this week, and if we can both run and pass, we have a chance. If Stephenson can punt the dang ball, and give TCU bad field position the whole game, and if the D can just come out and smack people--we have a chance. Plus, nobody gives BYU a chance, even our own fans.

Cougy_MonsterWatching that again just made my day. John Beck was a machine that day, possibly his best played game at BYU (not statistically but competitively).
I don't think our offense right now is anywhere near as complete and disciplined as that 2006 team. Hopefully we'll get there eventually but the only way we win this week is if our defense dishes out some huge hits early on in the game with some turnovers so our offense consistently has a short field.
If any of you watched the Cardinals game yesterday with Maximus Hall....that's the kind of game we need. Put up 30 points without a rushing or passing TD. Max perpetually had great field position and crazy good luck.

I'm right there with you with the excitement for the game. But we held the ball for 45 minues, giving SDSU just 15 minutes, and they managed to score 21! I know that SDSU is drastically improved offensively, but I don't think we get the ball for that long this Saturday. We're going to have to score. Maybe we could have a Max Hall day and score 30 points without a single rushing or passing TD!
I'm really tired of losing to TCU.

Cougarfan87It would be nice to leave the conference shattering hopes and dreams of both TCU and Utah. Then again, I'm not going to upgrade my Satellite to get Versus and watch the game--we lose every time I do. Instead I will listen over the internet or try and find it online. northerncougarI just want BYU to put up a fight. I loved the 2006 game, but the difference is, that was the game where John Beck finally put it all together. We just don't have all the pieces in place this year. The TE's and receivers were studs and Brown and Tonga were in the backfield, and we also had two NFL LB's on that team. We just aren't to that point yet this year.
We will show better Saturday now that Bronco has taken over the D, but I give is about a 1 in a 100 chance to win.

redneckjediThe big differences I see between now and 2006 are these:
Leadership - 2006 had senior John Beck and senior Cameron Jensen leading their respective units. We don't have that on this team yet. We really need our experienced players in the secondary and on the o-line to give us the emotional leadership to grab this game by the horns in the 1st quarter and not let go. A pick 6 by Logan or Rich would go a long way towards that, or a scoop and score off a Dalton fumble when Rich hits him on a blindside safety blitz, or gaping holes in the defensive front that allow us to get 6-7 yards per carry - that's the kind of leadership we'll need.
Receivers - John Beck was fantastic in that game - almost every throw was placed perfectly in a teeny, tiny window where it had to be, because the receivers were blanketed on every play. But you have to give a ton of credit to receivers like Curtis Brown (how many times did we go to him out of the backfield? like 150 or something?), Jonny Harline, Michael Reed, Matt Allen, Zac Collie, and McKay Jacobsen, because they caught balls with defenders all over them, and did so very reliably. We'll need our receivers to step up big time, especially if the running game can't do what it did against SDSU - which it probably won't.
Scheme Unfamiliarity - Anae was only in his second year with us, and so Patterson hadn't figured out how to stop his offense yet. Since Anae has been here, we have scored 50, 31, 27, 7, and 7 against TCU. It's gotten worse every time. Hopefully we'll do something to switch it up and make them adjust to us. I think establishing the run is key to this. If we can be a run-first offense and still move the chains, that will make them crowd the line and open up things like play-action, screen passes, and quick swing passes to the backs in the flat. From there they'll have to adapt, and hopefully we can stay one step ahead in the play calling. I hope Anae has had this game circled on his personal calendar for at least the last year, and is ready for it.
If those things can happen for us, we do have some of the same things going for us. We might be overlooked because of our record and their ranking, like in 2006. We have a decent secondary. We have Bronco calling the defense. We have to be pissed about last year and the year before. I don't know if we can pull it all together, but I hope so.

CougarbibI agree. Things are looking up. We do have a 1 in 100 chance of upsetting TCU, and a 51% chance of covering the spread. I also agree that if we get 47 minutes TOP - Cougs win. All season, TOP has been swayed dramatically in the less than 50% side of things and that is what has made our defense look like the worst defense in the country. A great offense is the best defense and a great defense is the best offense. To beat TCU, we will need a great offense and a great defense and great special teams play. That is what TCU will bring. We need to bring it too, to win on the road.

jonnylingoIf we could learn how to throw down field things could really open up for us. I really wish the receivers and tight ends were playing better.
We have a chance. Our team has enough talent to beat these guys. Our coaches just need to get it together. I hope our guys come out with the confidence of knowing they can win and that they never stop fighting.
if i see fight all four quarters i will be happy.
they should show these highlights to the team. these guys need to know they can win. i suspect them to come out playing hard and to play even better than last week. but that probably still wont be enough.
