LV Sun Picks BYU 4th

I just can't see someone with a straight face picking that BYU will land in 4th place in the MWC in basketball this season. That is the conclusion of Ryan Greene of the Las Vegas Sun.

He does select Jimmer to 1st team all-conference and preseason POY and Kyle Collinsworth as preseason Freshman of the Year



Jay Drew of SLTrib has SDSU #1 and BYU #2. I can see that argument a bit more with SDSU bringing back all 5 starters, but then picks SDSU's Kawhi Leonard as POY. It would be amazing at season's end for Jimmer to be cheated of that award two years in a row, especially when he's been named to preseason to all-american teams.



I realize I'm a Cougar fan and that affects my visibility somewhat, but you can also seeing sports writers with their own goggles on.

The problem with picking SDSU over BYU, is that SDSU has shown that historically they have major trouble with shotting over BYUs zone and with winning on the road. SDSU gets outcoached at times and if you do that enough you'll lose games.



If this were a vote for the most talent, then maybe, just maybe BYU is closer to 4th. If it's about results, then we're right at the top.



It all comes down to how Hartsock and Davies play this year. If they ball out of their minds this season, then we're #1.

He picked Kawhi because the POY usually comes from the championship team. If you pick SDSU to win it all, then you have to pick the best player on SDSU. I don't get the logic, but that's what many so called "experts" follow.



Kawhi is a bit inconsistent, I'm interested to see what he'll do this summer. Sometimes that kid shows up and dominates a game, other times he's like a ghost on the court. Still remember the game where he tore up softy Trent Plaisted.

Ha, that's probably why they hate BYU as much as they do...more fans are in their "own" city. Maybe that's why the MWC hates BYU too. There are more Y fans in every school's town then their own!

I love how the reader poll is picking BYU as the overwhelming favorite for #1 team in the MWC.

Well....it didn't hurt that the DesNews had the link on their site to the article and as most people from BYU ventured to the article, they deposited their vote for BYU as well. At least I did and that I believe did slightly influence the vote.

The 13 people or 2% of votes for the "someone else" category is actually the same yewt fan just getting on 13 different computers at 2 different libraries.
