The difference between this year and last

I just watched the replay of this game on BYUTV. The only significant difference I saw in this game and the BYU games this year, is there were no dropped passes, none. George and Ashworth both failed to get their heads turned around on one pass, but receivers made plays, they went up and fought for the ball, there were no drops. Hall threw to all the backs, all the receivers, both tight ends, and nobody dropped a pass. So I am still in shock that our receivers cannot catch a pass this year. Change this one aspect of the game, and BYU is competitive in every game this year, and we probably win a couple of those games, we probably stand 3-2 right now. I still think the defense looks so bad mostly because the offense cannot sustain any drives, can't take time off the clock, and can't put points on the board.

I saw a minute of this game too. It was Jacobsen,

A) breaking away from Db (haven't seen that this year)

b) had to turn around because Hall's pass was slightly underthrown (seen plenty of that)

c) basically ripped the ball away from the defender (haven't seen that all year)

d) and scored a TD (nope. Not this one either)

That was all I could stand and I turned the game off.

Well, the Tulane game had no particular appeal to me except, I really wanted to look at that team last year, and compare it to the team this year. Remember we had four new offensive linemen, and much concern over them. This year we have all those guys back.

The receiving corps was supposed to be one of our strengths this year (Chambers, Ashworth, Jacobson, Hafoka). well those guys in the Tulane game never dropped a pass, they fought for balls, went up and made catches. I thought, wow, so what happened to those guys between last year and this year? It's inexplicable.

The tight ends were impressive, as always; they just made plays, caught every pass, made first downs, scored touchdowns.

Unga was coming off a hamstring injury and played a little, but not much. DiLuigi carried the load and looked great, both running and catching passes. Kariya looked great too, running and catching passes.

Again, how can these same guys (minus the tight ends), be such excellent pass catchers one year, and turn terrible the next? These are juniors and seniors, so why can't they catch passes. And we're not talking one game, we're talking all five games so far this season, the receivers just really stink it up. As my high school basketball coach (Gary Earnest) used to say, "If I'd paid money to watch you guys play, I'd demand my money back!" My sentiments exactly. Start catching balls or get off the field.
