Our DL - Front 7 - Do we need greater depth

Interesting that we are/have been recruiting JC corners to add depth, speed and talent to shore up our pass defense.



However, we don't seem to recruit much on the JC D line. We used to mine Ricks, Snow and Dixie for these players that could step in and provide talent, experience, etc.



Sure hope that the Bingham group that we landed provides the depth because right now we seem awful weak.

We sure do. That is obvious.

Yes, but it is coming. Look at the 2010 and 2011 recruit classes and you will see the emphasis put on that position. We are not deep there now at all due to issues with recruits in this area.



2006--Matangi Tonga--booted from school.

2007--David Angilau--booted from school

2007-Star Lotuleili--did not qualify, went to Snow--plays for Utes now.

2008--Bernard Afutiti--out of school academics.

2010-Jordan Afo--did not qualify--trying to get back for 2011.



Those are 4 guys that would play this year if were here, and a 5th that will be good that we do not have. For some reason, we have had more issues keeping our DL guys in school, and we have not gone after JC guys recently for depth on the D-line. in 2010, we added 6 Dlineman, but a couple will serve missions first, Afo did not qualify yet, so again, might not see thes eguys for a couple of years. 2011 has some good depth in this area as well, so it is clear that recruiting has targeted this position for depth and improvement. But attrition has killed us.

Afo won't play for BYU. Players who don't qualify for BYU never seem to be able to. You might be able to if your at BYU and then fall (i.e. Tonga), but if you don't make it initially they never seem to make it later.
