We are NOT the most dysfunctional tem in D1

Guys, the lack of perspective by some is usual I suppose.



SURE, receivers are dropping passes.

SURE, the qb is missing reads and throws,

SURE, the defense reminds me of an infirmary

and SURE defenders are often out of position and trying to make arm tackles,



BUT WE ARE NOT THE MOST DYSFUNCTIONAL TEAM IN D1. FAR FROM IT, THEY WILL GET IT TOGETHER SOME TIME AND THEY HAVE THE ABILITY TO DO IT.



Before flaming me for this, please refer to Mr. Wulf at the great PAC 10 team of WSU. While wishing for what we haven't, be glad for what we aren't.



Like the Phoenix, this team will rise from the ashes. Yes there are and will be yet ashes but we will rise. I will watch every painful minute and yell at the tv and boo the wrong call, or the right call with the wrong personel, and be thrilled when they get it together.

My thoughts:

-if you adjust for talent, resources, facilities and coaching experience then we are likely without a doubt the most dysfuncitonal team in D-1

Not a chance. These guys will get it together. This group did not understand as a collective the cost in blood sweat and tears of winning. They are not assignment sound or route sound, but they will get it. The coaches will allow nothing less.



And why should I allow for talent, resources, facilities, and coaching experience? Those very things will help pull it together, along with the character of the people involved.

I believe you are referring to my comment...and I stand by it as has been further confirmed by Hill's stepping down today. I share your optimism long-term but right now this program is a mess. The team has given up during every game it has lost.

I'm not talking long term, i'm talking this 2010 team. If you think that we're not even in the running for the most dysfunctional FBS team and possibly pound for pound the worst, then I don't know how to respond to that.

To add emphasis - USC lost at home to Washington. USC was previously unbeaten. We have played a very tough schedule - 3 ranked teams, UW 2-2 just beat USC at the Coliseum, and yes - an improved USU team on the road.



But I agree that we are far from good right now.

One, I rarely believe in absolutes (except in doctrinal matters).

Two, for the sake of a nearly irrelevant thread--which has little noteworthy about it, but pure wallowing or anti-wallowing as the attempt here represents--i would have to suggest that BYU might just be THE most dysfunctional this week and the next few. Point: if a bone must be "re-broken" in order for it to healed correctly, the bone is broken--the DC is canned--and we start the rebuilding of the rebuilding. Problem is, we might have to break the other femor as well before this is all over!

Get out the wheelchair people!! We'll be fine--in 2011 or 2012. :-)

After Saturday's woodshedding in Logan, this team has lost the luxury of pointing to the difficulty of their schedule as an excuse. No matter how tough you schedule is, you just got rocked by USU---who has only beaten IdSU, Idaho, SUU, SJSU, LaTech, NMSU, Fresno State and Hawaii since 2006--that's less than 3 wins per season playing in the WAC, and the game wasn't even close.

Georgia is also 1-4 and they just lost to Colorado. I'd call that some major dysfunction. SEC plays patsy schedules at the beginning.

This USU team is far more competitive than any I have seen in a very long time. I am not saying they should be ranked or that BYU is anywhere near good. I am saying there are worse teams and quite a few teams where BYU would have a 50/50 or better chance on a neutral field. That does not provide great comfort, if any, but we are not the worst. It seems ironic that I have gone from being consistently the most pessimistic, REALIST, poster to being seen as optimistic by so many even while becoming slightly more pessimistic than I was in the beginning.



This team is not much, if any, worse than I originally expected - but AFA, Nevada, and USU are better than I expected: luckily UW self destructed in week 1. Originally, I expected to lose to UW, FSU, and have a toss-up or loss to AFA on the road.



I expected to beat Nevada at home and USU on the road. 3-2 would have exceeded my expectations and 2-3 would have met them. But Nevada and USU were both better than I expected by far and AFA was all I expected and a little bit more.

We definitely have some dysfunction right now, but come on guys, we are not even the most dysfunctional team in our own conference. It could be much worse, we could be New Mexico. We may have had some disunity among coaches but at least Bronco only fired Coach Hill and didn't assault him. :whistle:

Wow, for another useless thread the stature of the posters deigning to weigh in is impressive.



After posting over the weekend I considered the irony of trying to say "we're only this bad, not that bad."



I'm not jumping ship yet. The best is still yet to come, and this will be a great lesson for the new players who have yet to learn the price of success.
