...in 2 yard completions. I've never seen an offense that can only get routes open that are one to two yards in front of the line of scrimmage and never be open enough to get even one yard after the catch. There were a couple of drops last night that were so close to the line of scrimmage that it really didn't matter because still would have been 3rd and 9 instead of 3rd and 10.

I've had the same thought. What is the point of running a pass route that gains one or two yards? In the USU game, I kept thinking, is nobody open down field? USU actually covers all our receivers, and nobody can run a route that gets them open? where is Austin Collie when we really, really need him? In fact, this may be our biggest problem, awful route running, nobody who can get open, and then, of course, a team of receivers who cannot catch the ball.



I keep thinking about all those slow, white receivers we had for decades, who were always open, and always caught every pass. And now we have, supposedly, one of the best receiving corps in a long time??? and they can't get open, and they can't catch a pass?



Ok, we've played five games, it's time to bench Jacobson, Ashworth, Hafoka, and probably more. Sit them for a game, it can't be any worse with a bunch of freshmen in the game.

Here is my new receiving corps for the SDSU game:

1. Cody Hoffman

2. Ross Apo (can he play yet?), I think they're redshirting him, but we need him NOW!

3. Marcus Matthews (maybe).

4. Rhen Brown



I would not let Jacobson and Ashworth or Chambers on the field.

I don't know what to think about the tight end position, they are all highly touted, all-american, etc, but where the heck are they? they have disappeared? and they've dropped as many passes as the WRs have, and they seem to be unable to get open (a team wide problem). But somebody must step up. Mahina had one great reception against USU, but that was it, never saw him again. Holt is supposedly the fastest of the bunch, but he's been invisible (I think he started against USU). It's time these guys start earning their scholarships.

Apo is not redshirting. He had an open finger dislocation and is out until after the TCU game. The injury is not severe enough in the NCAA's book for a medical hardship, so he'll be playing again this season, but not for at least the next three games.
